Okay seen as we have had the first official announcement of the ride to the general public we thought it was time to restart the 2012 ride topic as at over 100 pages the old one was getting a bit big.

So a quick summary of where we left off...

Planning application released In August Alton Towers submitted a planning application for their 2012 ride, indicating the ride would be located in the Forbidden Valley area of the park and feature a industry grunge style building that fits in with aspects of the existing FV theme. To see the application click here

Speculation focuses on ABC drop ride Reports from the EAC exhibition confirm ABC are working on a new "drop" type ride in the UK and rumour immediately focuses on Alton Towers 2012 ride.

Ride Announced to the public on Scarefest park map Alton Towers release their 2011 scarefest park-map, which includes the announcement of the new ride for 2012 - Nemesis: What Lies Beneath. See the map here (10 days to go window)

New 2012 mini-site launched On the same day Alton Towers release their mini-site for the new ride which includes an intro-video suggesting a research team have gone missing in a newly discovered catacomb as well as a video of the original Nemesis Legend video, suggesting that the ride will play heavily on the Nemesis story. To visit the Mini-Site click here

So continue all 2012 discussion here  <!-- s:D -->:D<!-- s:D -->

I think DoAV stands for a government department, like the DoT (Department of Transport).

Department of Alien... something.

Department of Alien Verification perhaps? Perhaps not..

I don't know about anyone else, but the interrupted communication attempts , warning signs and industrial depths theming in the microsite have a very strong Raptor Attack vibe to it..

Perhaps a certain Yorkshire park could do what the Pleasure Beach did on hearing of Hex and cheekily state
'Don't wait till next year... come and ride the original here at Lightwater Valley!' at the ride's entrance.

OK, so basically this is the greatest thing ever.

Nemesis, as we all know, is pretty much the greatest rollercoaster in the world. This is partly because it is really thrilling and intense, but it's partly because of the THEMING. It has an amazing, proper back story, and a really exciting, original theme.

However, we also all know that the backstory isn't made use of nearly enough. There have long been cries from these parts that there should be queueline videos explaining the theme. THIS IS WRONG: Queueline videos would RUIN the theme: the amazing thing about the Nemesis queue is it genuinely doesn't feel like a rollercoaster queueline: it feels like you've stumbled off the beaten track and are going somewhere you're not supposed to go. Videos in the queueline would detract from this.

Now, 18 (EIGHTEEN!) years after Nemesis was born, it's getting what it's always deserved: a preshow. And not just any preshow, but a preshow that is a ride in itself.

AND THEY'RE DOING IT PROPERLY: this is not some bastardisation of the Nemesis theme, this is going right back to the source, and properly integrating the original launch video, the proper Nemesis music, and the proper Nemesis 'look and feel' (for want of a better expression).

The attraction itself could basically be: you walk into a room and watch a cool video about Nemesis, and maybe the floor shakes a bit, and maybe the lights flash a bit, and, frankly, I'd be happy. Even if it's the most basic ABC drop tower, but one that is built around the proper Nemesis theme, it's going to be awesome.

Yes, Alton Towers are basically milking their greatest asset, but, when your greatest asset is Nemesis, MILK AWAY!

well screw the pessimists, I'm gullible enough to get so excited I've had to replace my GLaDOS wallpaper with one of these nemesis wallpapers! :P

May have to take it through Photoshop though, I think I need to tweak it slightly!

although lack of resolution options is annoying 1920x1080 please. kthxs! :P

EDIT: and does this mean nemesis themed scare rooms for next years Halloween? Yes please! :P

I couldn't care less now what the ride system is, I'm just absolutely chuffed they're theming this ride around Nemesis and bringing back all the backstory for it. This is something we've been asking for, for years, and whilest its not everything we want from the park right now, it's certainly a big chunk of it.

Love the minisite too!

Maybe that's what this ride is about: The Alton Towers research team have dug down into a catacombs alongside Nemesis, and have found - buried in a box since 1994 - a big box marked 'The Magic'

He he... making a tribute to yourself is usually a risky thing... but who cares? This is a Nemesis tribute!

Personally, I hope it does not follow the 94 Nemesis promo story exactly, because it was cheesy, unbelievable and largely unrelated to the ride itself; just an OTT "backstory" to get people hyped for the rollercoaster. Whether it is narrated by Doctor Who or not, I still can't believe that a rollercoaster is supposed to be a bone structure that collects food...

However, Nemesis has always a very unique brand image that has been missing for several years. It would be amazing to get it promoted again (like Oblivion has in recent years in certain marketing material). And hey, they are finally opening a Nemesis shop. Maybe it will have retro-Nemesis merchandise like the comic and drink? :P

Well done Alton Towers, you naughty people. Next convert the Black Hole building into "Oblivion: Stuck in the Hole".

Hmm, name is good. Theme is good. Mini-Site is good. Video is poor.

It starts really promising, then is ruined by breaking out of the theme... very poor.

Anything to with Nemmy is 'awesome in every word', the rides story could be more entertaining than the ride!

Im suprised that AT have listened to TT's for once and are giving nemesis what it needs now after 18 years. I hope there is going to be a nemesis shop as long as merlin dont make it out of used containers. :D

Easy tiger - you are a tiny if vociferous part of their market - they might be doing something you like but that's down to intelligent commercial people working there, not a result of anything you have said. It would be stupid of them to market their rides and attractions solely to whims of a fan forum.

Sometimes Merlin just cant win. Or can they?

Look at how this topic has caught fire since yesterday. It really has whipped up a hype for something they havent really been boasting about. They have probably learned their lesson from the 'Ultimate Rollercoaster' description for Th13teen (which I enjoy each time I ride), and we should probably congratulate them for that. I take the point that its early days there though.

We all chirp on about how we want to see backstories for coasters whenever a new one is built, and here we have an entire 'experience' that is created just for that purpose, although a few years late. Granted we dont fully know what form that experience will take (although drop tower is considered most likely) but at least it will be there at all.

We also tend to jump on Merlin for moneygrabbing and aftersales, but am I right in thinking they have just removed a pay and play area to give us an extra ride? The fact that most people seem glad there will be a Nemesis shop suggests that actually we are keen to fork out a little more for merchandise, although I realise the container based housing for it isnt popular.

I think even the most cynical of us can catch a glimmer of that little bit of magic returning with this project.

Oh and cheer up Blaze. If people like Corkscru wish to speculate, let them. He's not claiming to be in the know, so there's no need to piss on his chips. This board is for everyones enjoyment.

I can honestly say that in the past 24 hours my excitement for this attraction has probably tripled. Wow it's looking good. If this continues in the quality and design of the promotional material so far then it will probably be mind blowing in terms of creativity and atmosphere, which is what has really been lacking from the Towers over the past decade (Though the past few attractions have defiantly been a return to form). Hopefully the press release and things will keep to this sort of marketing, no extreme statements, no crazy ideas. Just trying to immerse you straight from the start into the attraction which is just exactly what they should be aiming to do. So far 2012 is looking to be the best year from Merlin/Tussauds for a long time in terms of quality with this and The Swarm, and if they pull off what we've seen so far, then I will commend Merlin.

This thing has just gained so much potential on it. If pulled off well, it could be one of the best rides in the country, and from what we've seen so far, I have high hopes that this will be just that.

Really pleasantly surprised at the mini site. Wasn't expecting a lot when I clicked the link, and then I wasn't expecting much when the video started... then the music came on! Really love how they've done this, sure the video could be better but it's done it's job at getting the message across and it's even got us enthusiasts excited, which is really saying something coming from Alton.

Another thing that surprised me was the use of the 1994 promo, I just love the idea that the joe-public have easy access to the back story and have a chance to appreciate it.

Any other time, I would agree with ryanyoxall. Can't stand them, they're used so much now they're almost generic themeing. Having said that, on this one occasion, they fit the theme perfectly...

...I typed that out expecting to easily find a decent picture of Nemesis' corrugated metal station interior, to back up my point, and for the life of me I can't find one! ATA might have one but their gallery is broken, can anyone help me out? :P
