Will it be de-constructed? Will another secret weapon takes place? Will it still be as awesome as today?

We can only find out in the future.....

This topic comes up time and time again but Wardley himself said that "your grandchildren will be able to ride it" at the Th13teen event last year so it will be with us for a while thank goodness! Obviously it's time will come like any ride and it will probably have the most magnificent send off that a ride could ever have. It would be appropriate to replace it with something at least as equally as menacing and as thrilling.

I think the ride will have around a 40 year life span. The park today are keen to keep it in good condition as track has been replaced and worked on lots of times. They know this is the ride that brought them into the modern era of theme parks and i know they know how popular it is.

When its time comes im sure something more spectacular will have to take its place.

In before the lock

The ride isn't going anywhere for a long time.

It's in great shape structurally, and if Corkscrew lasted 28 years, Nemesis can last longer.

John Wardley said it won't be going anywhere for a long time and the recent All Time Greats competition shows it's still by far the most popular ride in the park.

End of discussion.

Even though (as mentioned above) Nemesis is going no where, it is still a good question as to what Alton will do with where Nemesis currently sits.

I don't think it's really something that needs to be discussed fully just yet. Although Alton will only have a very limited number of choices as to what they can do with the area. They could either build a replica ride of Nemesis (most unlikely), fill in the pit and start fresh with a empty piece of land or attempt to build another ride within the pit (it would be hard as the pit was designed for Nemesis, but there are ways they could get around it).

It'll be interesting to see what will happen to Nemesis, how Alton Towers will go about announcing it's removal, how they will send off the ride that made Alton Towers what it is today and ultimately, it'll be interesting to see how the public would react.

Although hopefully we'll have a ground breaking roller coaster by then that will foreshadow Nemesis, luckily Alton Towers have got a lot of chances to create a coaster that will create the same hype as Nemesis did - lets hope they don't mess it up.

Actually, I'm rather interested in seeing whether the popularity of Nemesis will ever go down hill, are Alton really capable of creating something more special? Time will tell I suppose, but as of now, we do not have to worry about the removal of Nemesis but I must say, it is still an interesting question, what will really happen when the day comes that we have to bid farewell to dear Nemesis?

Thinking about it, what about when all 3 of Alton's B&M's are gone? It's weird imagining Alton Towers without Nemesis, Oblivion and Air. I just hope that when any of those rides are removed that something suitable will replace them.

If the terrific trio leave in my life span, I will commit suicide.

And I bet they would be replaced by the Arrow of the future.

0 B&Ms have been removed for scrap to date. The fact that one of their oldest is currently being relocated (rather than removed), suggests that it is unlikely that any B&Ms will be removed within the next 5-10 years.

I think they will just relay the track, and revamp it with the same theme in about 20-30 years to keep it fresh. All the B&M's will be with us for a long time. So, no need to worry! :P

There are already many many topics about this.

Nemesis is going to go soon, it's pretty much definite. I mean no one ever rides it. It's consistently voted one of the worst coasters in the world and it just lost hands down to Th13teen in the king of the coaster poll.

Tbh I feel nemesis will outlive this new 2012 attraction.

Lets face it, Nemesis is the best steel roller coaster in the world that has inversions, and it is the best B&M in the world which is a true honour to have in the UK. Nemesis keeps UK theme parks alive and is one of the only serious thrill rides we have in this country; it will not be going for a long time.

It's special; I suspect Nemesis could last even longer than the Corkscrew did!

You suspect? Only suspect? Well let's compare them

Corkscrew
Vekoma semi-portable ride for small start-up parks
Built to be quick to build and take apart and move from place to place
Cheap

Nemesis
Bespoke B&M
Built specifically for Alton, to last at Alton

If Corkscrew lasted just short of 30 years, Nemesis can do 40, easy. There's old woodies still open that were built over a century ago.

No B&M has been taking down, without being put up again in a different park, (Six Flags)

Think of Nemesis like a house and Corkscrew as a sort of tent.

Houses are built to last... They are never usually taken down except in special circumstances, needed for more room or if they are proven dangerous. Tents are taken down all the time.

I respect that a tent is probably more like a travelling fair ride. Corkscrew is like a house/tent hybrid. It was never built to last as long as a house.

I don't understand why people seem to think Roller Coasters only last 30 years at the most, when many are over a 100 years old.

Beast, Black Hole, Corkscrew and all the other small coasters Alton have had are all pretty much cut from the same cloth, they are not built to last like Alton's other coasters... they were filler rides to give the park reputation. Cheap additions very much like all small parks get.

Of-course many have an emotional attachment to these rides but sometimes trying to maintain them is not a financial option.

Nemesis does not have that issue... Hopefully once Nemesis gets into her 70's people can finally give it a rest and accept she's never going anywhere!

A friend of mine, who's uncle currently works in the maintenance department at Alton Towers has confirmed to me that ideas are currently floating around that consist of Nemesis leaving the Park in 2016, and being replaced by a similar ride. Although it hasn't been set in stone yet, as the idea's in its early stages.  Maybe this could be the very early development of SW8?

Take this or leave it, but I'm only passing on information that I've been told. :)

If this is true, why make Terry? They surely must make it a Nemesis II, a similar ride with a different story.

That's a good question actually, but if Nemesis did go, then they must create a coaster that is even better than it is now, and somehow theme it to the Nemesis, Forbidden Valley kind of story. Remember, four seasons is still a long period of time. So we'll just have to wait and see. But wouldn't 2016 be an intelligent guess as to when SW8 will be opened? :)
