Hey guys, we haven't seen a lot of considerable change to the park this year. so what do we think AT have install for 2012? Flat rides, A family coaster, re-themed areas/rides, restaurants, shows, removal of any particular rides, mascots, events, expansion?

Cheers everyone <!-- s:) -->:)<!-- s:) -->

I think this is the year we have an X-Sector spruce up and the Black Hole Tent finally gets it's worth.
Course it will
Keep on whistlin', folks.

Yeah definitely, its been empty for ages now :/ I do hope they only give X-Sector a 'spruce up' rather that a re-theme though, because personally I think the theme is a good idea, and lets hope they don't keep ruining it with Fanta sponsorship.

Well we know next year is a 'medium year' and they have expressed a desire to finally replace the Black Hole, but it is only one of the things they are looking at doing. A Dark Forest flat is probably the other leading option for next season. I think whatever they do, especially if they put somrthing in X-Sector, that they should spruce it up. Give it a clean, repair the broken stuff, give whatever needs it a coat of paint and hopefully remove all signs of the sponsorship, and in general make it the best area of the park again, it wouldn't take much, and hopefully a new family thrill coaster will revive it and be the perfect precursor to SW7.

The only thing i would say is the lack of attraction this year may feed next years budget, so we might actually get more than was origionally planned

Hopefully

Possibly, I mean, the 4D could go in next year, using the budget it had for this year, so it wont impact the budget they had for 2012 to start with, so they get one extra attraction with no extra cost; or they could scrap it alltogether and put that money into 2012.

Or sadly they could do what even I'm worried they will, and just not bother reinvesting that money.

If they do replace Black Hole, I wonder if the flat will be affected. Presumably X-Sector will be refurbed to go with the new ride, so I wonder if they'd want to keep the knackered old flats and replace them later, or get one or two new ones and go all out to totally overhaul the area. The problem with this is it leaves little room for the Dark Forest flat, because they wont put one on in 2013, and 2014 will probably be a 'small' year, so it dpends on whether they consider a single flat small or not, and in 2015, another area will probably need more urget attention, so I wonder if a flat will ever go in there if not next year. And they will have to at some point; Thirteen will be almost walk on most days in a couple of years and Rita won't pull 20-40 minute queues day in day out for much longer either, so unless they want it becoming stagnant, they'll need a flat in there soon.
AstroDan

I would imagine they have been hard at work planning attractions for 2012 in recent weeks, especially given the debacle over the original plans for this year - they will want to make sure everything is right.

I would like to think we see two developments next year.

I would identify up to four sites that could be used in the immediate future around the park:

Forbidden Valley: The Lava Lump (ex site of Dynamo - queueline remains)
Adventureland: Ice Tent + Beastie area
X Sector: Black Hole Tent
Dark Forest: Ex Ug Swinger site

For me, I would like to see some sort of medium thrill flat ride either in Dark Forest or Forbidden Valley (in either of the locations above) plus a larger development, preferably in the Black Hole Tent or utilising space around it. A medium thrill rollercoaster or dark ride would be best suited. They could also look at buying a small custom Gerstlauer kiddie coaster to replace Beastie. The cost for this would be mimimal.

Either way, I feel it needs to be a good, solid WELL THEMED addition!

:)

Not sure if people have heard what I have been passing on, but basically I have heard from the horse's mouth that something will be happening to the tent "very very soon". Also I have heard various rumours from two people who have close connections to the park, that the ride will be a second hand Vekoma and will be along the lines of a Boomerang ride but on a much smaller scale, similar to Ben 10.

Now these last comments are only rumours, but there are a few second hand rides that fit that bill that are up for sale.

I'd love to see a Gerstlauer kiddy coaster like Troublesome Trucks, but hopefully longer and better themed. Something like Snake von Midgard. I can imagine that going on the Beastie site or the Forbidden Valley site (nice to see that area get a bit of variety, intensity-wise).

I'd also like to see a dark ride in the Black Hole tent. To be frank, with Merlin's penny-pinching, if it was a coaster than the expensive coaster system would decimate the theming budget. Therefore a dark ride is the only way forwards for that site.

I cant see alton towers installing a second coaster and certainly don't know of any Vekoma's that are similar to to their bigger Vekoma boomerangs apart from ben 10 (which was the first of its kind to be built)

If we get a coaster in the tent i think it will be some kind of Gerstlauer coaster. The park really need a replacement ride in the blackhole tent, a new kids coaster and a flat in the dark forrest but i just dont see merlin giving the park enough money to do all three with an expected £18m ride in 2013.

I don't see a dark ride as the only way to go at all, or why a coaster would mean less money spent on theming. The ride would be compact, so it won't be very big, and therefore relatively cheap, and if they have bought a second hand Vekoma, even more so. I hope the havn't bought a second hand Vekoma, unless they have it refurbed, but if they have this will save lots of money. Being a dark ride, it doesn't need to be well themed, the darkness takes care of most of it, and they'll still theme it either way, if they were so obssessed with peny pinching they wouldn't theme any rides at all. If that was true and they built a dark ride, which needs to be well themed, then that would be worse than an unthemed coaster in the dark.

I'd be happy with the same model as Troublesome Trucks to be quite honest, and if it's in Adventure Land couldn't care about theming. If it went in FV it would have to be themed, but what to?
Big Dave

Why wouldn't Alton Towers buy a second hand ride? They have done several times in the past.
djtruefitt

To be fair a second hand ride would be perfectly fine for the black hole tent if it was kept in the dark, that way it wouldnt matter how old it looked or what colour it was, etc. Which in turn means Alton wont have to paint it, retheme it, or pretty much do anything with it, which saves them money!
Blaze

I thikn they'd have to refurb it a bit, old Vekomas arn't know for their comfort and smoothness, and it wouldn't really be great for them if their new ride immediately got a reputation for being as rough as Corkscrew was in this day and age where most rides are obsessed with smoothness.

I'd personally be fine with a second hand ride if it was enclosed.

Hope we do get a new coaster in the tent for next year. [-o< Two new flats to replace the Crankies wouldn't go a miss either. X Sector would be cool then, aside from Fanta sponsorship... :x

heard again (for the severalth time) that forbidden valley is to change, with both the blade and ripsaw to move away, one relocation one removal, tho unsure which is which, but the relocation to be to forbidden valley.
Perhaps blade in its 4th position? or Ripsaw to get more power to be able to do more inversions?

lets see...
djtruefitt

I think blade could quite easily be moved elsewhere in the park (maybe Mutiny bay somewhere and themed like a Pirate ship like most of them rides are in other parks?). And replaced withsomething half decent as it is a fairly big long piece of land.

However im unsure on Ripsaw, I cant really see where else it would fit in the park without a major retheme, as it currently has the old rusty style look (im sure by now most of it is proper rust and not paint) that fits in well with Forbidden valley, but not really anywhere else. Unless it goes to Dark forrest with some branches all over it or something? But im unsure what would replace the ripsaw as its on a pretty tiny bit of land where you cant expand backwards or sidewards.

True, but if Blade is to moved aswell then there would be quite a big area.
I personally think out of both of them Blade will go, it's the oldest out the two and doesn't pull many visitors (when I go anyway)
djtruefitt

However if both were removed ait would be interesting to see what new ride would be added there as its a weird big of land, the blade is very low down in the old thunder loop location and the ripsaw is just at the very edge of the park.

I think the problem with the blade is that its fairly hiden in forbidden valley with it being low down in the valley and hidden by trees and its a bit confussing to get to the enterance (with the exit being on the complete other side of the enterance). Also having Nemesis and air right by its just a ride you would walk straight past to get to a bigger and better ride.

I think the ride is perfectly fine and pretty much every other park in the UK has one (some of which have only had them installed in the past few years). I think if it was moved somewhere else it would become very popular again, espeically if it wasnt so hiden like it is in Forbidden valley. It would be good in Mutiny bay but I cant really see where it would fit in without looking very out of place or in the way.
Blaze

If Blade goes another swinging ride should replace it, something along the lines of Maelstrom, Eagle's Claw or Flip Flop, the trentch will keep the hight down and it would be a more exciting ride than Blade, but still accessable. I'd love Alton to get a Top Scan, and if it went in place of Ripsaw, it could easily be themed as shrapnel, it could even be called Ripsaw II if they wanted, although I'm not sure if any top scan should go here or in X-Sector. If they relocate Blade, I hope it isn't to Mutiny Bay, that's just so clichéd and obvious, while having as Blade was inspired. Although having to retheme it would give them a chance to make it a bit different compared to most pirate themed swinging ships. If Ripsaw moved, Dark Forest would probably be the best spot, and could be themed as a possesed tree or something, or moved to X-Sector; retheming it to fit in there would be very easy, it's already half way there, just give it a silver and black paint job and put the electric things back on, and it's pretty much perfect for X-Sector, although if it gets refurbed, I'd like new flats to go in, not recycled ones.
