normally when we see the surveyors its to do with standard mapping and/or land issues etc.

Did you happen to spot them elsewhere during the day or were they just in Katanga?

Id love to see something extra in katanga, perhaps utilisng the mini-bus park area as it is rather large and could add so much depth, but tbh I doubt it, the area works well as it is.

Very interesting indeed! Of course this could be for pretty much anything, but it does suggest that something is going on in or around Katanga! Maybe something 2012 related I'm thinking? If it's related to a new attraction of some kind, I do doubt that it will be for next year, for several reasons.

Thanks for the photos Altonator!

I must admit you have got me thinking what could 'fit' into katanga, personally Id like a flat ride, something new, interesting and well themed. Plus I dont think theres space for much more.

We already have a much loved 'coaster' (of sorts) and a good water ride, so a flat is the next thing, yes?

Might be worth mentioning again that there was one of those Yellow Balloons (a while back) near to The Flume. Perhaps this could be related?

Would be nice to see something else as well as Shrek for 2011, but changing Katanga seems to me like a risky thing to do, since it's quite a 'classic' part of the park...

Could just be a flat and just because a new addition could be planned it doesn't mean the whole of Katanga will change. Just look how Rita was plonked in Ug Land :P
Hopefully Merlin will make the new blend in with the old.
Or then again maybe something huge is planned to join Katanga and Munity Bay :D Which may include Flume Site?
I wish :D

Katanga Canyon is a very cleverly thought out area. It was a genius idea to construct a new land in the centre of the rapids circuit. That one idea created the foundations for the whole of the park's left side areas (from Gloomy Wood up to Forbidden Valley) and brought the Runaway MineTrain along with it! Who could ask for more?

If the rapids were still shoved to one side on their own pile of land, with the queueline entrance beside the Flume, a lot of access would be restricted and we would not have the Gloomy Wood or Forbidden Valley in the same way today.

If they decide to alter Katanga Canyon, then there will be good and bad results for sure. A new support ride will add some attention to that area bringing it into the 10s, and make people stay in the area for longer. However, it will also make the area rather compact as there is not that much space available. More bridges will have to be built over the rapids circuit to allow access to a new part of land, as there is nowhere else to build in the area as it currently stands.

In my opinion, the park shoud really be building elsewhere.

Surely they could get these people in before opening? It has to be staged...although that could still mean something is planned and it's to stir up interest. Or it could mean it's all part of the SW7 interest stirring in general, keep people guessing where it's going to be.

I saw these guys surveying near the Air entrance last Tuesday. Combine this with the yellow balloons seen around the Flume and Nemisis a few months ago, Maybe the start of plans for SW7?

But let not jump ahead of ourselfs!

In my opinion, I think it's pretty obvious that SW7 will be in that general area of the park, and I personally think it will use The Flume's current ride area (which is why we haven't seen a pirates retheme for it) and go over some of the Katanga area.

I think we'll see a multiple launch terrain coaster starting where the Flume's station is, similar to the new Cheetah Hunt at Busch Gardens.

This reminds me of a rumor I heard at the start of the season about a stage being built in the area. Do we think it could be this?

Could it have something to do with future plans of moving the entrance near Air and a few other small projects?
Blaze

I don't know, this stuff goes on all the time, I saw some surveyors by the Towers yesterday, so it could be anything.

If a new ride is built, I'd like it to be nearish the Rapids and see it's stupidly long queue shirtened. There's no need for the path to be that big, so shorten it and place a nice new ride there.

Katanga is actually one of, if not the best themed areas in the park (stick that up your pipe, FV) so I'd want them to be careful and make sure it fits in with the rest of the area. I don't know if there would be enough room for a new ride, it's infrastructure and the higher number of guests, and I'd want them to be really careful if they do build here, but would quite welcome a new ride.

Actually, what areas of the park could SW7 feasibly go in anyway?

A wooden roller coaster would certainly fit in nicely!

Air carpark, Flume and nearby area (including KC), what was Coaster Corner. BH site. There's a few places it could go, although as far as I'm concerned, it's most likely the Air carpark. This area (KC, MB, Flume) of the park wasn't mentioned on the MTDP, so I think it's unlikely to go here.

However a lot of the things on the MTDP such as moving the park entrance seemed to be absolutely ludicrous ideas as they would upset the whole balance of the park. Katanga Canyon seems like an excellent area for a new roller coaster. It’s completely central so there’s a slim chance of anything being seen from outside the park, and the extra large coach car park makes as good an opportunity as the one next to Air. I wouldn't rule out an attraction fitting into the triangle between Katanga Canyon, Gloomy Woods and Mutiny Bay just because of the MTDP.

When I was there on the 29th September they were surveying the Log Flume queue line! I am starting to think it's a bit too much of a coincidence!

I've got a feeling that this may have something to do with SW7, just seems like it :). The flume could be going in replacement of the flume if that's possible. But could they be that far ahead in the design process?
