New Flats Ideas?

After vistiting Alton many times now i am starting to get a bit bored of their flat rides, as the only real flat ride is Ripsaw, and I think they seriously need to think about this because Ripsaw is 12 years old, and wont last much longer! i think if they do replace Ripsaw it would still have to be a top spin but deffo a more modern version, but what else could alton add to there (average) line up? I mean seriously compared to Thorpes Samuri ,Slammer, Vortex ect alot could be added. Your Thaughts :?:

Saying there lineup is "pathetic" is a bit over the top, i'm not being mean or having a rant at you here as it's your opinion, but back in the day Alton had a fare share of flats, but in recent years all their attention has gone into Cred Street/Cloud Cuckoo Land and Ug Land/Dark Forest and these rides have just slowly left the park or just stayed but getting a bit tired. I don't know what furutre plans are but I feel in the last 3 years or so Alton have worked well with these new areas and rides, obviously there is more to be done and it's not perfect but I think Ripsaw, Enterprise, Blade and Twirling Toadstool still rack up the parks guests. :D

Infact that is one thing I dislike about Thorpe Park, the fact that there are about 7 flat rides all seemingly clumped in one area. In many ways you could say they have too many!

The lineup is by no means "pathetic" but I agree there needs to be some new flat ride, personally like to see a flat ride return to FV where Lava Lump now stands.
In fact, Dynamo return would be nice..

Maybe Pathetic is a bit over the top and you realy count the twirling toadstool as a flat?
anyway what i am saying is all they seem to be focused on is sw's and family rides, now im not saying they shouldnt just they should focus on people who want to ride something different than rollercoasters all day :D

I believe it is counted, that is the highlight of my day!

I don't know if it is counted to be honest, I would have thought so. Besides it still gets a reasonable queue does it not? :)

I love Twirling Toadstool too. Seems much more fun now its been rethemed and moved.
Always make sure I get a good go on there, plus I like the ride op, he sounds like he should host his own radio station. :)

And can I just say, the last thing we want is for Alton to become like Thorpe... And add loads of low capacity, not particularly great rides.

Yes the park does need a couple more flats, but I really don't think they can be "any" fair flats, AKA, what Thorpe has done.

I have just thaught something like pandemoneum could go well either in the Gloomy Wood, FV or even X-sector

The only ride that Thorpe have that I would like to see at Alton is Slammer. I think it would look great in the place of Submission and Enterprise.

It is such a shame that Alton have lost a lot of there flat rides. I would love to see the return of Dynamo and Energizer (Bone Shaker), if the later did make a come back it would have to be on the original setting.

or maybe aero 360 it looks better!
I think it would be a good replacement for the blade would it not?

If it was themed well it would work quite well in Forbidden Valley.

a lot of these flats do the same thing id like to see an interaction ripsaw is good because of its interaction with the fountains so why can't a new flat have an interaction with fountains or wind

You'll have to excuse the french but i think something like this,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKY59QE_o8U
would be very good in the black hole tent, you could probabley get two or three in there.

The Alton flat line ride up is poor. There is no doubt about that.

An enterprise, wave swinger and pirate ship are all quite standard attractions that you could find at many parks. The only unusual rides (from a UK point of view) are Ripsaw & Submission.

The main issue with flat rides of course, is capacity and Alton really need to stay focused in that department.

With a new flat there are a great number of possibilities depending on where you place it, what it replaces, whether capacity comes before ride experience, etc...

Now, straight off, as a family ride with a good capacity, and also a fairly unique one I wouldn't mind one of these - (unfortunately the video quality is terrible).

Image

You sit in an Air style, flying position, before flying around in a Twirling Toadstool type way. Too similar to Twirling Toadstool, perhaps, but a good family attraction with a high capacity it is, and I think it would make a nice addition to the park, potentially on The Beastie site?

Of course, as more of a thrill seeker myself, I can't really resist throwing the Robo-Arm concept into the mix, unfortunately these would be painfully low capacity, such that Alton Towers would have to install 10-12 of them just to keep queues down to an hour or two, so I think the only way we're going to see one installed is as an 'additional charge' attraction, and I certainly don't want to go down that route.

Image

Ideal for the UG Swinger site were it not such low capacity, no?

Moving into X-Sector, where Alton are likely to get away with building slightly taller rides. Looking at the area, Enterprise and Submission are both ready to go, what should replace them? I suppose I'd have to go with a Top Scan, personally, but again the God awful capacity of these fairground rides would mean queues of 2 hours or so on busier days (see Samurai's Thorpe Park), and I reckon we'd see a lot of down-time.

So possibly 2 Top Scans, one for the submission site and one for the enterprise site? I see that as a plan, though I'm not 100% sure that they'd both fit.

Next? Black hole tent. A permanent scare maze? As much as I'd love to see it I don't think there's any chance of it happening, and again, throughput would be dreadful! How about a Mega Disk'O? It would surely fit, and could be turned into a pretty impressive ride if themed appropriately?

Finally, Forbidden Valley, where Blade surely needs a replacement. Again, that Mega Disk'O that I brought up earlier could come in handy, it would fit into the Valley nicely, providing a reasonable thrill whilst staying a family attraction. Alternatively, one of those weird vertical things that have opened as part of the new Toy Story area at Disneyland Paris wouldn't be bad.

Image

Personally, I really think Ripsaw should stay, so I'm not going to even touch on that location. Personally, there are other flats that I'd be more than happy seeing at the Alton Towers Resort, Dynamo has been sorely missed and a similar ride for... well... the Dynamo site would be nice. I wouldn't mind seeing a Twister either, or a proper Pirate Ship built on the water in front of The Flume. A Sea storm ride for Mutiny Bay, is another possibility, or, I'd actually swap Heave Ho & Marauders Mayhem for a Mack Sea Storm and Twist 'n' Splash, without a second thought.

Image

There really are so many routes that Alton can go down, as far as flats are concerned, and they need to take one really, and soon. Because the park is sorely lacking in the flats department.

:)

If it were up to me i would put a gyroswing on the blade site with some minor excevations (footprint diameter is something like 15/13m. Blade more like 10/20) akthough i think the gulley would have to be taken down by a few feet as the gyroswing has a max swing of 22m.

I do think it's time for Ripsaw to be upgraded to it's bigger brother..
