If we believe 2006+ Planning Worker, or, not, I think its fair to assume that The Flume is reaching the end of its life.

Its pretty old now and is in a poor condition and its not appropriately themed for Mutiny Bay.

Its time for a new, modern and well-themed water ride to take The Flume's place. Whether its going to be opened in 2012 I have no idea...

I'm not sure whether the Flume is reaching the end of its life or not. Based on its reliability and popularity I would suggest that it is not.

However, I still don't understand the section after the first drop - which just seems to have no theme and to be boring and pointless.

As far as theming is concerned obviously they were tied into the sponsorship, but now that is or has ended they are in a position to make it fit in - although not necessarily with Mutiny Bay. Although perhaps the biggest question is - are the bath tubs staying? Because I have a feeling that they cannot be easily re-themed, and replacing them (on such an old ride) is going to be relatively expensive.

And thats a bad thing how?

I don't really believe him, however i would love the idea of having a watercoaster in the park.

It's a bad thing because it is not the market that Alton Towers is aimed at. Merlin's thrill park is Thorpe Park - and they are advertising it as such. And it was almost inevitable they would go that way, especially with being able to get a ride with the height of Stealth. Its location has none of the beauty of Alton Towers, so would require extensive (and very expensive) theming to make it look good, and Chessington (which already had good theming) next door to cater for the family market - aiming for the adrenaline junkies was the way to go.

Alton Towers made it clear that their target market is families - coming in full cars and staying in the on site hotels, thus reducing the traffic on the local roads. I'll not be getting my hopes up for anything for thrill seekers in the future - I learned that when I rode Th13teen. I'd like to be proved wrong, but I'm expecting that Mutiny Bay and the Dark Forest have set the tone for the future.

Sorry, but don't the kind of new topics that say "oH mY gOD gUYZ! ALTUN TOWERZ R GETTIN A NEW 4D FLOORLESS BY ANTON SCHWARZKOPFS GHOST!1111oneoneone" without a SINGLE shred of evidence or any reputation for accuracy by the original poster usually get locked?

The man has a point ^^^

Isn't there a perfectly lovely "Future of the Flume" topic somewhere?
For some things there is no rational explanation. There is no way out. There is no happy ending to this story. Welcome to the unknown. Welcome to eternal darkness.

To be fair Sam even though the original source is dubious it is fair to say that at some point in the near future The Flume will be retired and a replacement sourced which should at the very least be a family thrill ride and of course involve water.

I think it is wise to keep the topic for now and see how it develops. Afterall there is nothing wrong with a bit of speculation it keeps the forum alive if we locked every topic where no evidence is forthcoming then we would have nowt to talk about :) Maybe hope some evidence is forthcoming, but I doubt there will be. Even if the original source is indeed wrong, there is certainly no harm in discussing a replacement for The Flume and when it may finally retire from the park.

Indeed, the development plan for mutiny bay and the gloomy wood has been stretched out in three parts

1: The most recent with the re-theme of Merry England and added Sea life centre
2: Closure of Flume, construction of new family thrill coaster, revamp of Congo River Rapids
3: Extension of Gloomy Wood, possible re-theme with new flat rides and shows

This whole plan is forked out into a 8 year development which were already two years into.

Alton Towers still has plenty to offer, with hotels, water parks and a theme park who knows if it becomes the new disneyland. Maybe even an Alton Village with clubs, shows and restaurants.

Does anyone also know that loggers leap will also close soon as well. Its common with a ride so old and costly, its just plain silly to keep paying for the upkeep.

As I'm sure you are aware, a new entertainments and entrance complex is part of the 10 year development plan. :)

Also lets keep to topic. Nothing wrong with speculation like I said earlier but lets not get in to the realm of making wild and unrealistic claims as also it will result in is the topic being locked. :)

As nice and as amazing as this idea is (the thought of AT having a Poseidon... mmh!)...

Where's my dark coaster to fill the Black Hole tent? Why rip up another ride when there's space to be used?

Since the Black Hole closed this has happened loads of times, so I wouldn't bet on them suddenly realising that!

2006: Black Hole closes.
2008: Splash Battle >>> Battle Galleons.
2009: 3D Cinema >>> Sharkbait Reef.
2010: Corkscrew >>> Thirteen.

It'd be great next year if we get a +1 to the ride line-up without anything being replaced.

Yeah hopefully we will get another ride, even if it is a decent flat ride that is themed well for Dark Forest or The BH tent. Some new small touches every year is what keeps people wanting to go back and it would be nice to see slight changes that may not be obvious to the public but things that are obvious to us, the enthusiasts. :P :P

But I don't have a clue whether to believe this '2006 planning worker' person, it just doesn't seem likely and with his previous posts have any of them actually happened? :? Because I can't remember. :D

It would be good to see the ride there but as Mankey said, fill up spaces and you will add a ride to the line up, take away a ride for another and you have the same ride count. Log flume may be boring but I know lots of people that find it really fun, although that these people are age 10 or younger, it is good for these younger people to like a big ride. Makes them feel older. :P

What would be the point in that? :? X-Sector is the other side of the park, with a completely different theme!

What we need is a ride similar to Black Hole to replace it, NOT a flat ride. Flat rides are spectators rides and shouldn't be hidden! They don't offer much of a ride seeing as they tend to repeat motions. Coasters can be hidden and seen as mysterious as they have the ability to give that "ooh what's going to happen next?" feeling.

A nice, compact sit down would do nicely! Why completely rip apart what was good to start with!?

Compared to some other suggestions and rumours this doesn’t sound too hard to believe.

Firstly the data given is 2012. This does make scenes. Most people have previously predicted next year’s priority is X-sector, followed by a re-theme or removal of The Flume.

Secondly a water coaster would make good use of this land as it can have free movement around the woods and use the lake for a splash zone. With Altons height limits it might not be like other water coasters and could be more of a family model.

This suggestion also seems more likely than when someone called "SonicTheHedgehog" posted a big picture of sonic with the slogan "see you next year..." underneath it. Link here. Although in that case there were already rumours of a re-theme and someone had already heard sonic mentioned on site. (For the record it was Gloomy Dude and not Sam who posted the Troll picture)

Basically I'm not saying I believe this will happen, but the suggestion of a Water Coaster is a plausible one. Either we will be given proof over time or the idea will just disappear like all the other speculation.

Am I the only one who kinda likes the plain floaty bit of the flume? Nothing's happening, you get to wave at strangers, it's all very English.

I say! I agree old chap, only a good cuppa could make it better! To be honest though I love the Flume its all very magical it is now a classic ride of Alton Towers. Ok it is nowhere near as famous as old Corkie but still it has that feel about it like the Vintage Cars or the Swans used to have. I preferred the older theme of logs but I still think it’s a cracking ride, I will really miss it if (when) it’s replaced!

If this water coaster rumour will happen then i think once the flume is destroyed, a new one on the same scale as the family/thrillness sectors the Flume should be made and place in Coaster Corner, spreading out the water rides, that is key on a hot day as all these hot visitors crowd towards the area with the water rides making the area between The Rapids and The Flume very chlostrophic and jammed!

I think also for the future, if they would move the entrance, a smaller Tidal wave should be placed on the lake were the hole in one game is infront of the towers. Be pretty good as you will get a good view of the park!
Secret submission lover.
Who doesn't love that comfy piece of chance?

I guess a a water coaster would be good for Alton and the Flume is ageing, but the loss of another classic would be terrible  and it would probably need to be themed well to fit in with Mutiny Bay.

It's not going to happen. The view of the Towers is protected (or something) so they would never get permission for a ride there. (Personally, I think they should have repainted spinball in 'forest' colours when they rethemed it - so that it didn't stick out like a sore thumb!)

Actually, I am glad that these things are protected - it is what makes Alton Towers special in my opinion. Although I do want good rides there too of course ;)

As much as I think coasters/rides look ace - you wouldn't want anything spoiling the view of the Towers from towers street.
