Why not get ricky gervais, Alan Carr, Russel Howard, (russel is simply the best!) micheal mackintyre and other known faces? Cheap entertainment but major profit for Alton, thats the catchphrase these days...

Only one person I know and that's Hattie Hayridge who was holly in red dwarf but she ain't that big of a comedian. It's a shame could of been a good night
Hattie Hayridge is, as someone pointed out, Holly from series' 3 to 5 of Red Dwarf. She's also well-known for stand-up and has been on the circuit for about 20 years. That's star enough for me
Also, Bob Mills has been on various (mainly daytime) TV shows and Felix Dexter is a major up-and-coming: he's been on Have I Got News For You, QI and Would I Lie to You numerous times for a start. He's really, really funny.

Picking the four most mainstream comedians around, and slagging AT off isn't fair really. I have seen two of the people on the bill, and they are brilliant stand-up comedians - although I do find this venture a bit odd, it doesn't really suit AT's style. Nice to see a bit of variety though (if expensive!).

Because Ricky Gervais is now the kind of guy who presents the Golden Globes and stars in Hollywood movies. Alan Carr used to be a great stand up but now happily occupies himself making constant sub-Julian Clary innuendos on his dreadful chat show. And Russel Howard and Michael Mcintyre are now at the level where they can sell out yer 02/Wembley Arenas routinely... oh yeah, and they're dreadful

What were you expecting? Alton Towers isn't the O2 or Wembley Stadium. Let's not slate this, this is clearly Alton Towers wanting to improve their entertainments & events.
I think that its great that alton towers is giving a chance to the smaller curcuit and upcoming comedians to preform to an audience. All of the famous comedians that some have sujested had to have started some where just like these comedians that are preforming at alton. Upcoming comedians need places like alton towers so they can help make a name for themselves. About Five years ago if i had mentioned Russel Howard for example you would have gone: "Who". Don't automatically think because you don't know them that there rubbish, you have to give them a chance and go and see them, then judge there quality of there material.
I have enjoyed many nights at comedy clubs where I've seen comedians I've never heard of. Also, I saw Jimmy Carr at a comedy club before he was famous, so there's obviously a lot of unheard of talent out there!
Also, a night at the hotel is on its own around the £200 mark, if not more, so I think a comedy night plus dinner is quite good value for Alton Towers.
It's great they are giving lesser-known comedians a go, although one mediumish star would have been a nice way to top it off. Someone who is not as well known as the likes of Peter Kay and Michael McIntyre, but not completely unknown either. Someone like John Bishop or Stewart Francis. Both very funny, but not really as big as they deserve to be.
Just because they are unknown does not make them bad, as there is a lot of unknown talent out there waiting to be discovered, and it never will be if it is not given a chance. AT could have got anypne they wanted, but chose lesser known comedians and deserve praise for doing it because it will help these people become more well known and it isn't the obvious choice. Expect a very entertaining night.

You mean, for example, someone like Hattie Hayridge? She'd certainly fit into that category, IMO...
On the other hand, I've never heard of either John Bishop or Stewart Francis, which just shows how subjective this is.

I guess you are right, although I'm surprised you ahvn't heard of The Bish, he seems to be on everything now, just out of nowhere after years of obscurity. Hattie Hayridge does fit in, although I never knew who she was until someone pointed out she was in Red Dwarf.
At least we have something... and no doubt it'll be far better than some of the cr*ppy "comedians" you find in hotels abroad.
£99/person seems very steep to me though, that said it is AT and the rooms are normally expensive anyway, and when food and the entertainment is factored in, I can see why it costs more.
It would be nice if this could be opened up to non-guests of the hotel, for say £30ish, so you could see the show after a day on park!
