What are people's opinions on a retheme now? I think a retheme to Alton village/harbour would be cool. I don't think it will be too hard to retheme. Although, as said if it's not rethemed it's better than having a log flume themes to Imperial leather bath tubs!!!

I have a strong feeling Mutiny Bay is going to be rethemed to Alton Village.

Well I mean if you think Merlin will fork out for an extensive retheme of Battle Galleons and the whole area sure! I personally doubt it completely.

I must agree with that, Capt. Barnacles. Mutiny Bay has too many attractions which just wouldn't work as part of an Alton Village theme. Take Sharkbait Reef as an example. That wouldn't fit in well, and there is also all the pirate theming which would be costly to remove as Capt. B said. That said, I guess at this point, no one knows what will actually happen with this Alton Village retheme rumour.  :)

The area could be easily renamed something like Alton Harbour and still harbour (see what I did there :D) a pirate theme alongside SW8. It could be themed as a sort of port area with SW8 being ‘The Village’ further inland.

Yes, I agree that would be a way they can do a retheme, and to be honest, the more pirate theming the better, in my opinion.

Possibly another way they could do a retheme of the pirate stuff is just to make some minor alterations so that it looks more tribal. The Alton Village could be hosting a fair or something in honour of the Halloween celebrations that the residents of the village are taking part in?

Also, I think a while back someone suggested that Mutiny Bay could be split into two areas, one being the courtyard the other the remaining area of the land, which I think is quite a possible way to do a retheme and would also work with what you said, Tom.

Just to be awkward, but I see people keep saying the Mutiny Bay has too many attractions, what are they? To me there just is Battle Galleons, Sharkbait Reef and the old teacups.

You’re forgetting the fantastical mega-thrill ride that is Heave Ho.

There is that ship that spins around while moving on a track. can't remember its name though

My bad. Haha. In all seriousness though, a retheme wouldn't be that much, would it concerning the total SW8 cost - who know's, the price may already be in with the budget.

I guess the cost would just depend on what extent they wanted to change things.

I still think the best option all round would be for SW8 to sit in its own area, like The Swarm does at Thorpe Park. That way, no Mutiny Bay attractions need to be rethemed, there's no tenuous connection to Katanga and Gloomy Wood, and they can go all out theming it however they like. I have a hunch that the "Wicker Man" trademark might be for this area rather than the ride, but I've got nothing to back that up. But an entirely new area rather than retheming an existing area does strike me as the most likely possibility.

Has nobody considered the possibility that they have Gloomy extended to the point of SW8 and Duel, so all that land in between can be for other attractions? The flume area with the second lift could easily house another flat ride as the trees are rather tall in this area.

That won’t happen.

One of the conditions of SW8 being granted planning permission was that Merlin have to take steps to restore the woodland where the flume trough once stood.

SW8 won’t be in Gloomy Wood or Katanga Canyon. At this stage Mutiny Bay looks the most ideal “area” for it to be in but the theme isn’t consistent which makes me think we may see a retheme of Mutiny Bay for 2018.

I can't help but feel SW8 will have it's own sub-area to Mutiny Bay, as obviously on it's own SW8s theme does not fit any area around it, but with some slight tweaking of the setting of Mutiny Bay, it could be that the Village, or the ride, or whatever it's being themed to, is inland to where Mutiny Bay as, it'd be easy to make some strange obscure connection between the two, and isolate SW8 slightly with some clever path placement. :)

I don't think we'll see any retheme of Mutiny Bay or see SW8 in its own area unfortunately. I think they will just stick it in Mutiny Bay as it is and ignore the fact they are two completely conflicting themes in the vein of Galactica/Forbidden Valley and Rita/Dark Forest to a lesser extent.

AT have been weird with the themes of some new rides

The Smiler is the only one that really took on the theme of the rest of that area

SW8 in no way fits with Katagna canyon or mutiny bay

The Smiler certainly fitted X Sector and the area was tweaked slightly to incorporate the MOJ theme. If you look at the Oblivion station screens then the footage has been adjusted to tie in with The Smiler.

Rita has improved over recent years with the abandoned race track slant, while Galactica has a very, very loose tie in. To be honest, if the park was to expand out to the car park then it may be better to incorporate it with the new area. RCR and Galactica are very futuristic, so this is one possible theme.

With regards to SW8 then Mutiny Bay would be the ideal area to retheme to a village or harbour as it is close to the ride. I haven't ruled out Gloomy Wood though as I think more could be made of the Haunted Hollows with a possible retheme towards a village like area or general woods. This would misplace Duel though, but the area plays well to nature/paganism as hinted in The Welcoming. Also, lots of the Haunted Hollow has been switched off in recent weeks. Lots of lights and effects are not operational, nor have they been rectified over Scarefest and Fireworks. Very unlikely and pure speculation, but a possible hint to a retheme.

I was there on the last day of the season and I walked through Haunted Hollow, I didn't notice any effects off.

I've also not heard any speculation about a Haunted Hollow retheme, But I quite like that idea to a more Pagan style walkthrough than a generic gothic horror theme.

I mean regarding the area they could set it out weirdly so it including the courtyard, SW8 itself and possibly Haunted Hollow, Not sure what other enthusiants would think but I quite like that idea!
