Im not saying they dnt theme at all, i mean look at disney. but the vast majority of coasters in America look crap. Look at X for example
Are you just talking about the way the ride looks because X is amazing and it actually looks wicked when you actually see it.
I think mankey's talking more about the theming, as in it seems to be built on a car park or something :?

Although I think X itself is ugly too :P
Nick

Yeh X does look a mess really, no noticeable attempt at themeing just like Griffon

How would you theme something like X though? I know they could have had an attempt but its such a big & well messy coaster.

Don't understand though, they made a good job at creating themeing with Sheikra so why not this one?
Nick

It probably wasn't themed much because they weren't given a budget for extensive themeing

Griffon looks just as crap as Sheikra really...
Sheikra doesnt look crap, you are just hard to please.

Griffon does look like a good coaster but they really have missed out on the water splash and not having a hole. I mean, what's the point in the water splash?!

X looks ugly because it needs to have so many supports.

About time to start a topic on this.

Just like happened with ShieKra and Griffon, it seems Busch Gardens Williamsburg is getting a slightly bigger and better version of the new "Cheeta Hunt" Intamin launch coaster at its Tampa sister park.

The ride will replace and use the landscape formerly inhabited by the Big Bad Wolf, which means it will have to go some way to remedy disappointed BBW fans (Horizons into Mission: SPACE anyone?).

The ride will use BBW's former station, and feature a brand new 80ft 26,000ft "show building", which will apparently contain one of multiple launches. The park have described the ride: "“See if you can brave the Black Forest on Busch Garden’s all-new roller coaster in the Germany area. What starts as a nice ride through the countryside quickly launches into a lightning-fast, multi-sensory dash through crazy turns, hidden hazards and heart-pounding drops. Inspired by the famed autobahn, the ride combines fast launches, special effects and indoor and outdoor elements to makei t a one-of-a-kind coaster experience.”"

The current names being tried out in surveys for the coaster, which will be in the Germany area of the park, include Verboten, Revenge of the Black Forest, Uber Bahn and Black Forest Turbo.

The current bet on the manufacturer would of course be Intamin, but Screamscape reports it will be a German manufacturer which means Gerstlauer or Mack. If it's Intamin, the "event building" with launch could possibly mean something like Th13teen's drop section, with a backwards launch. In fact in many ways, the ride sounds very similar in theme and concept to Th13teen.

RIP Big Bad Wolf.

Sounds fan-flipping-tastic. Hope it recreates the drop from BBW and the show building sounds interesting. Biiger version of Thirteen's drop maybe?

As for names, Verboten is by far the best.

hmm very interesting :P nice to see how they pull that 'show building' off.

Agreed on the name, and also that drop on BBW. Although I never got to ride it, it looked like one of the best elements/combinationated with scenery on any coaster'.

I'm slightly disappointed. Not because of the ride, that sounds brilliant. I'm disappointed because that drop...

... would have made an amazing Flying Coaster. Just imagine diving straight at the lake and the powerful yet visually stunning pullout. Ah well, lost opportunity.

Whatever Busch will get, there's no doubt it'll be a fantastic attraction. The area where Big Bad Wolf stood is very hilly with steep valleys, ravines and it's covered in vegetation so I wouldn't be surprised at all if they took advantage of that. I'm hoping the ride stays pretty close to the ground throughout and focus on speed rather than height, they already have three monstrous coasters as it is.

I too hope that BBW's epic drop is recreated in some way. It was visually stunning to look at and the drop itself is easily one of the most amazing parts of a coaster that I've ridden to date. It won't look anywhere near as good or as intimidating on this coaster though. :(

Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to seeing how this progresses and it gives me another good reason to go back to my favourite park. :)

Here's a rough sketch of the layout, taken from the American equivalent of a recent planning meeting thingey:

Image

As Screamscape has already pointed out, the similarities to Th13teen are impossible to ignore at this point, which is what makes this ride so interesting for me. It looks like this ride is going to be all about this event building, and it looks like the ride will be from Intamin. Now they've built the small prototype at Alton, could we be seeing the fully-fledged thrill version, with a massive drop and a decent coaster attached...?

That sketch makes it look barely more exciting than Th13teen.
Although hopefully they will produce something far more thrilling with the landscape they have to work with.
I will wait for more details before getting in any way excited about it.
SAM93

Well looking at that, this event building better be damn extravagant as the layout looks a little bland/short going on that!

No doubt Busch will pull it off though, they always seem to manage it! :p

My only concern is, if it is a launch coaster or a more thrilling ride, with a second incarnation of Intamin's drop mechanism, that they will OTSR it, totally killing the drop!
Blaze

It's only a rough sketch, but it does look pretty short. The event building could be crucial. Any reason why it's on the side of the ravine? Maybe that could play a part? If it does drop and go backwards like Thirteen, where will it turn back around? There's no switchback, unless it all happens in the event building. Anyway, it's probably too early to start making assumptions and guesses, but I'll be keeping my eye on this.

Well. Bet nobody saw this coming.

- Firstly, it will be made by Zierer.

- 16 people trains (8 cars of 2)

- A dual loading station, where two trains load at once behind each other. Should be high capacity.

- The finale is an elevated covered bridge in the same position as Big Bad Wolf's big drop, 126foot high. I am completely unsure what the legal status of the pictures I'm posting here are - they've been redacted form BGWfans upon wishes from the park, but they are still up on TPR which is where I got these from. They can be taken down if required. Concept art below:

Image

As for that big event building in the middle? It could be absolutely incredible. The partial plans leaked make it hard to work out if there is a Thirteen-style drop, but there should be some world-class theming and special effects, and apparently a number of 'firsts'. All from TPR.

Overview. Trains start by coming out of the bottom of the station on the left.

Image

They then enter the event building on the uppermost track in this picture. Figure of eight style layout potentially with many effects, darkness and theming. Hard to tell if there is at least one launch in there too. The bit with the hands I think is the building finale before you enter out of the bottom exit. At a guess the hands attack the train or something similar before a drop track like Thirteen's, seen in the bottom right of the picture.

Image

3D view of event building. There will be a lot of themed foliage around the track:

Image

Cross section of the wall the trains enter and exit the event building, looking at the river section, so the trains enter on the left and leave on the right. You can see where the drop-track will probably be on the right, starting where the hands are and falling to the bottom position.

Image

I presume after this there is a launch to gain height to the covered bridge section. This is the grey rectangle seen on the far right of the layout, about halfway up. After this is the drop to the river. If the concept art is anything to go by, it should be very steep.

Other theming plans, including the giant hands:

All I can say is, WOW. :D

...and the award for the most nuts ride of the decade goes to...

Zierer?! What the hell, I mean really? It'd be like Alton announcing that Zamperla are gonna make SW7.

Those pictures have obviously gone down, if you see them go back up, grab the opportunity to re-host! (edit: gone back up, s'ok)

Plus a launch and a drop section, all with some good theming and potentially animatronic hands. When you say the pictures have obviously gone down, do you mean you can't see the ones I've posted? Or they've gone down from BGWFans?
