Probably the biggest announcement from Six Flags today is The Joker - a RMC Hybrid coming to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom next year. Although it will be situated on the site of the recently closed Roar, I believe this will be an entirely new installation rather than a conversion.

Some of the key facts are as follows:
  • 3,200 feet of dual-colored purple and green track
  • First ever step-up under flip
  • 3 inversions
  • A wild Zero G barrel roll
  • Breaking wave turn
  • 15 extreme airtime moments
  • 78 degree drop
  • 180 degree stall
  • Maximum speeds of 53 mph
  • Nearly 2 minutes long
  • 2 x 24 passenger trains
  • 100-feet tall
There's both a teaser video and full on-ride POV for the ride. As with all RMCs, it looks like it will be an awesome addition to the park with what looks to be a great mix of airtime and inversions.

It looks good. I just have one question. What is the First ever step-up under flip?

It's the name RMC have given to the ride's first inversion :P

It looks good but I'm a bit ashamed Six Flags are still cashing in from Batman over 20 years later.

This looks relentless! I know Code will be very happy to see this! (It's his home park) Looks very Wicked Cyclone style. More airtime, less interaction with itself. As for the dual colour track, good to see RMC doing something different.

This is the only thing Six Flags have announced that is truly amazing. The Joker just looks awesome! It feels quite like Wicked Cyclone so it will definitely be good in my eyes :P Just a quick question, why is it a new installation?

From what I've read this doesn't seem to be a conversion in the same way as previous Six Flags RMCs have been, but it may use some of the existing structure.

It appears the ride's lift hill has now been topped off (although the photo has been subject to Instagram's filters, resulting in some off-looking colours).

The first drop has now been completed, and SF Discovery Kingdom have posted a nice looking photo to Instagram of it.

The first section of inverted track has been installed today, as shown in this image from the park's Instagram, along with this overview of the first portion of the layout.

California Coaster Kings recently posted an update on The Joker, which shows many key elements of the track as well as installation of the breaks.

What's your opinion on that lead car, Hideous or fantastic?

I'm not a fan of that design at all, but if the coaster is as good as it looks, the car doesn't matter.
