One big motivation for replacing it would possibly be the ability to keep it running at higher windspeeds which are so often an issue for the ride. A ride they can keep open longer, give it a smoother, faster, steeper drop whilst still giving the park that iconic look from the beach are pretty compelling factors.

That said, are they compelling enough reasons to splash £15-20mill on?

S&S announced that they're now offering Steeplechase coasters using the rights they bought from Arrow. Will probably mean the Steeplechase will lose it's "world's only" status in the next year or two.

Also gives BPB some new options if they want to replace the ride vehicles:

Nick Thompson has said that the current ride cars on Steeplechase won’t be replaced with the new ones.

Half the fun of Steeplechase is how vulnerable and 'at risk' you feel on it, would lose a lot of it with those new designs. Looks like they allow for more intense ride layouts though so it'll be interesting to see what other parks do with it.

Looks like a lovely addition and should smarten up the south entrance.

Didn't think we had to give credit for official park released photos, sorry. I will do so in the future :)

Yay! I can't help thinking the track paint colour looks a bit like primer though.

Exciting times, amazing that we have such a ride coming to the UK!

I'm not exactly the biggest fan of the colour scheme. It looks a bit bland. At least, the POV colour scheme was a bit more exciting and different.

Remember the train is gold, so it’s likely to give a good contrast!

Isn't it the same colour as in the POV. A white/grey colour. Having never been to Blackpool, I can't really comment on the coaster's location, but its actually going to be an exciting development, and its an exciting coaster. I'm so going to have to make the 6 hour train journey to experience this

It’s a long old coaster isn’t it!

Looks a great ride. Not sure if has enough of a USP to grab the public’s imagination, but I can’t wait to ride it.

Refreshing to see a UK park share photos of the construction openly. Seems common sense to me

It’s coming along fast!

Few things I hope come with this ride however are:

Valhalla level theming - the exterior of a ride can sometimes be enough alone to get a person to ride a coaster (often GP can’t tell which coaster is which). Once we step into the New Year some decent marketing of the ride from BPB and perhaps some sort of special event for the opening. I just feel like it’s a ride layout that the UK has not seen for years, and barely anyone knows about it, yet most people I’ve spoken to know AT are getting SW8.

Here’s a new update from Blackpool! Here we have the supports for the Immelmann loop going in, which is the highest point of ICON.

Some great new pictures from the Coasterforce forum showing some insane near misses and snappy banking! You can really see how much Big Dipper's ride experience is going to be enhanced by Icon.
