It is definitely the Gold mine being converted. When I went for a WOW weekend a few weeks ago. The ride op I spoke to said it will be open for a few more months and then will be closed.

As for the closed period last year. He said, the ride was not broken or anything, merely closed so work behind the scenes could be done in preparation for the new W&G ride.

It looks as if the actual ride system will remain intact and new sets/scenes and new/refurbed ride vehicles will be introduced.

That does sound credible, if the ride system is still fine then why change it? They will merely update the theme which guess will give the entire ride a whole new lease of life and W&G is an excellent theme for a ride if done correctly!

Maybe it could be a Pandoras Box ride, with animatronics and screens... I think it would be awesome! :D

It will definitely 100% not be that. On the very small chance that they will not use all or most of the perfectly good ride system currently in the building, the small and irregular shape of the ride area rules out anything anywhere near this big, nevermind the cost.

*nips in bud* :P

No-one actually knows yet Dominoes, not even the keenest of Pleasure Beach fans! :P

The fact is, it could be Noah's Ark, Trauma Towers, Gold Mine or any other ride being re-themed.. or a completely new family ride. All we know is that is won't be a thrill or rollercoaster ride, as Nick Park himself confirmed on Radio 4's Desert Island Discs show a few months back.

Two new videos have gone up this weekend showing how far along construction is at the Pleasure Beach.
One looking at the progress of Nickelodeon Land from the monorail and train -

The other shows a glimpse of the Splash Bash being tested -

I'm really beginning to like the small details of this project, with more to go up in the next few weeks. The terracotta tiles on the Spanish-influenced World Voyage station, the artificial coral on the Splash Bash rocks - they all look magnificent. Roll on May! :D

---- Post Info Added ----

Apologies for the double post - slaps wrist :P -, but Amanda Thompson has announced the opening date for Nickelodeon Land via her Twitter account as Wednesday 4th May. There are expected to be previews of selected rides during Easter, however for those hoping for the full experience, there is just over a month left now.. it's official! :D

Update - Mandy has tweeted that the official opening date is 4th May, though at least some of the rides will probably open before then.

Im due to visit Pleasure Beach on Thurs 5th May. Should i be expecting it to be busy, with the day prior being the official opening for Nickelodeon Land?

Is it just me, or does that Twist n Splash look about twice as large as a classic Teacups? :D

Although it's an easy mistake, the photos were taken by Pleasure Beach Experience, not TN. :)

Hopefully I should be on the park this weekend, so i'll get some photos/videos for you all! :D

Video of many of the rides testing.

I have to say the new Nickelodeon land looks really great, and very well themed. I mean most of the rides are pretty standard in kids areas of other theme parks (eg Thomas land), but they are all very well themed to Nickelodeon shows. There does seem to be a lot of work to do to get it ready and open on time.

I imagine the spongebob ride will be really fun (on a hot summers day) as I can just imagine the water going everywhere in every direction.

If this was around when I was a child I would have spent hours and hours there (infact if I visit Blackpool anytime soon im sure ill go on one or two of the rides :P).

Was on Local News (North West Today) along with Mandy just now. Also reported about Madame Tussauds, might be online later.

Here's the link to North West Tonight. Skip forward to 17.00 minutes for the PBB part. It will be on until Monday 25th April.
Thanks for riding the Runaway Minetrain, we hope you enjoyed your trip. Choo! Choo!

Photo of the Nick Shop.

Looks very bright and spacious for PBB. :D

Just watching this live news report from BBC north-west or whatever it is. Does it make anyone else very angry when they constantly call Nickelodeon Land a "new theme park"? It wasn't even made clear in the entire piece that it's part of the Pleasure Beach.

Also who exactly is Spongebob SpareSquants? :P

That's because they haven't fitted the indoor fountains yet...

This is something that drives me mad about the UK press. Whenever they report a new development they seem incapable of distinguishing between a themed area and a whole park.

When Harry Potter opened at IOA, every non enthusiast I know thought it was a whole park (most still do).

A friend at work got very excited a while ago because "they are opening a whole Peppa Pig theme park!" (she has a young daughter). When I explained to her the truth, she was so disappointed that she looked like she was going to cry!

I'm waiting for the press report that states there is a Ben 10 theme park opening in Tamworth! ](*,)

I have to say I am impressed, it looks like a great kiddie area. Still not a fan of the whole Twist 'N' Splash, especially if it spins as slowly as it looks to so far in testing.

^ Haven't you seen the press release on the Spider Crab Theme Park opening in Staffordshire? :P
If you go down to the Towers today, you\'d better ride Th13teen. :P
