Hey and they got it rotating now. Was just going up and down a couple of weeks ago. Apparently it had a major wiring issue and had to be completely re-wired hence the late opening.

Wish I could have seen this lighting in the flesh but park wasnt open that late.

The Ride itself doesnt look too exciting (not sure on rotation speed) but it has got height. I think it also give guests who dont want the extremes of the larger coasters something to ride that gives them a good view of lake Eerie. Ok so there is the double deck observation tower which is probably one of the few rides thats exciting in RCT3 as it is in real life :D

Oh dear oh dear oh dear... it appears CP's Windseeker is having pretty massive safety issues, as the very scary video posted by Screamscape shows...
  • From about 1:20 onwards, the spacing of the seats starts to go haywire, and they swing dangerously close to each other.
  • At 1:41 in the upper right of the screen you can see two pods crashing together.
  • At 1:47 in the upper right you can see the same thing happen again.
Scary stuff.

I saw this earlier today. I don't like the look of these rides one little bit. I can just about handle a Starflyer but I think something inside would stop me riding one of these. Especially after seeing footage like this.

That looks horrendous, and ridiculous. It seems like Cedar Fairs idea of opening many across their parks wasn't a great move.

From my point of view, it seems to be a problem with either changes in wind turbulence, changes in speed of rotation or a mixture of both. This problem could easily be fixed by changing the support for each 'car' to only allow sideways swing, rather than let it swing wherever it wants. However, doing this would most likely cost a great deal of money. Shame that Cedar Point should be dumped with bad choices of structure and mathematical assumptions made by Mondial :|

Screw the entrance fee, I have an annual pass!

I have no interest in these rides.

Cedar Point, the park that never remove a coaster (the last time was 1978, and it was another Wildcat!), have finally chucked one. The most minor ride in the park, yes, but suddenly the others don't look so safe! Who'll be next? Corkscrew? Draggin' Iron?
Cedar Point wrote:CELEBRATION PLAZA EXPANSION

Cedar Point has announced that it is expanding its new Celebration Plaza. As a part of that expansion, Cedar Point will be removing the WildCat roller coaster.

WildCat was coming to the end of its useful life. With the desired expansion to Celebration Plaza, coupled with the low ridership and increased maintenance costs, Cedar Point has decided to accelerate the removal of the ride. WildCat will be removed from the park prior to Opening Day and the materials will be sent to a recycling facility.

This expansion is one of several initiatives that will beautify the park midways and enhance guests’ experiences. Additional improvements include state-of-the-art lighting packages on Giant Wheel, Millennium Force and Power Tower, a new sound and lighting system along the park’s Main Midway and the re-painting of the Millennium Force and Blue Streak roller coasters.

Cedar Point remains committed to being the roller coaster capital of the world. New roller coasters, rides and attractions will always be a part of Cedar Point’s future.

Poor Wildcat! :/ I know they'll replace it with a better ride, but it's sad to see classic coasters go.

I wonder if they'll auction any of its funky looking cars off?

I'd buy one! :D

If anyone feels emotional and wants to ride the Wildcat, you can ride the same coaster (but better themed) at Lightwater Valley under the name Raptor Attack. :)

I knew it would leave Cedar Point sooner rather than later, However It's absolutely gutting that it's being scarped instead of it going to another park. Another Schwarzkopf gone :(

I think Iron Dragon will go next. It looks like the weakest of the remaining Arrow coasters. Plus it's the oldest in operation.

However on a brighter note, Something new is happening! I wonder if a coaster of a similar size will take it's place?

Wildcat was in an awful state , in a real bad way when I saw it a year ago. It was only sporadically operational when I was there and always seemed to have a team of mechanics around it somewhere with big hammers. Hope they put something of a similar thrill level in its place when they get round to it.

I thought that Iron Dragon was half decent and does ride pretty well. Personally I would chuck out the truly awful Gemini or perhaps the Cedar Creek Mine ride and replace one or other with a half decent mine train.

Disaster Transport and observation tower Space Spiral to be removed for the biggest B&M Wingrider so far. Disaster Transport is an Intamin bobsled, only going to be three left after this, including Bob at Efteling. :(

Slightly weirdly written article ("The new ride at Cedar Point could promise to be a work horse available to guests at almost any time they are in the park.") but the project sounds very exciting none-the-less! :D
Sandusky Register wrote:Cedar Fair stands ready to spend big money on a new roller coaster for 2013 at Cedar Point that will change the park landscape.

Code-named “CP Alt.Winged,” the coaster will have the “longest drop, run the fastest and be the longest ride” of its kind, Cedar Fair CEO Matt Ouimet wrote in Feb. 15 memo to Cedar Fair’s board of directors.

The total projected cost of the project is $25 million, a price that includes removing the park’s Space Spiral and Disaster Transport rides and restructuring the park entrance.

Ouimet was unavailable for comment Tuesday.

Lee Alexakos, corporate vice president of marketing, declined to confirm the information in the memo.

“We have not announced any plans for 2013 but we did announce a $25 million investment,” Alexakos said. “This will be one of the largest capital expenditures ever.”

Alexakos said that with any ride or attraction Cedar Point undertakes, the company is always looking to set records.

The Swiss-based Bolliger & Mabillard Consulting Engineers is set to design the new ride, which was described in the memo as having a “Front Gate Statement— a roller coaster that flies overhead, rolls and flies back— highly visible above guests entering the park.”

The firm designed Cedar Point’s Raptor.

A winged coaster is designed to suspend riders on wings to the sides of the rails so there is no track above or below the guest.

Engineering schematics show a proposed coaster with gravity defying twists, curves and rolls.

“Rob Decker (Cedar Fair VP of planning and design) and others have done a great job of creating a compelling, economically attractive new coaster for Cedar Point,” Ouimet wrote. “We believe this particular ride design with this particular manufacturer balances the desire for marketable innovation and risk associated with early adaptations of prototypes.”

Bolliger & Mabillard designed the first winged coaster for installation in Italy at a park known as Gardaland. The Six Flags Great American park outside of Chicago also has one of the company’s winged coasters, called X-Flight.

The new ride at Cedar Point could promise to be a work horse available to guests at almost any time they are in the park.

“Rob talked to operators of the first one in Italy and found no unanticipated negatives and very high ride reliability (less than 1 percent operational downtime).

Design plans show the new ride with a 170-foot tall lift that will fly overhead of park guests entering the park. It will have the longest track and longest ride time of any coaster of its style as it flies overhead, rolls and then fly back.

The huge roller coaster will dominate the front gate and the track will travel over a large parking area at the park.

“We have several coasters that cover parking lots,” Ouimet wrote. “Not necessarily ideal, but certainly acceptable given tight site constraints and the amount of land such attractions require.”

Disaster Transport and the Space Spiral both would have to come down if the site plan currently under consideration is chosen.

Part of the $25 million investment will also include renovations and upgrades at the park entrance from the parking lot.

Cedar Point general manger John Hildebrandt was not available for comment on Tuesday.

Sounds great!  :D Although I wonder how much of the car park space will the wingrider take hold of. I don't think Disaster Transport will be missed too much. Bring it on Cedar!

Poor Thorpe Park. They try and prove they are not just a miniature Cedar Point with a completely fresh ride design only for Cedar Point to copy them a year later. What's the bet it has the same first drop as well  :P

Apart from that this sounds very exciting. It might well be a car park coaster but with this being Cedar Point it'll probably be one of the best track and train Wingrider's. I wonder if this is the ride with the green track seen at B&M's factory a few months back?

So, let's get this straight:

Cedar Point will have removed two classic family coasters in the space of two years?

Although I guess they are losing their lower height restriction coasters, tbh I wouldn't really call them classic coasters. They both look terrible, and were very outdated. I barely remember them from my visit.
