That was pretty much what i was hoping for, i very much doubt a theme park experience can be better than that, Good weather, the finest theming and top rides.
Hot enough so not only do you want to get wet, its really the only option.

To be fair, i'm not normally a big fan of over-themed ride cars, but in this case, with it being a family coaster, they are just the ticket!

How can you not like themed ride cars? BTM, Deulling Dragons. It just looks great. Anyway those cars look amazing and they suit the ride. They're certainly not letting the theming baton of cosistancy drop at EP. Even on a family ride

And so we reach the 6th installment of my Europa Park coaster reviews! This review follows on from my reviews on Euro Mir, Poseidon, Silver Star, Matterhorn Blitz and Eurosat.
ATLANTICA FACTS
Status: Opened March 2005

'Atlantica Super Splash' was opened in March 2005 as the parks first new rollercoaster since 2002's 'Silver Star'. The rides name was chosen through a visitor poll of three titles: Atlantica (77%), Navigato (16%) and Aquaypse (7%). It became the first Mack Super Splash to feature a backwards section and turntables. It cost Europa Park £4million and became the first ride in the parks new land 'Portugal'. This ride is vastly different to the parks water coaster 'Poseidon' in that Atlantica features only two drops, goes higher and faster and seats 16.
Atlantica is themed impeccably well. As you arrive into Portugal, you notice that Atlantica is the only ride (more rides will be built in Portugal either in 2007 or 2008). It dominates the sky-ride and the enormous 16-seater boats thunder down the 100' drop and into the deep blue pool below. You see geysers shooting out of the water at erratic intervals, to catch out passing riders and guests.
The new entrance for Atlantica takes the form of a fabulous sailing ship entitled the 'Santa Marian'. This opened in 2006 following theming works over the 2005/6 closed season. Take a trip around the Santa Marian, looking at the amazing attention to detail and fantastic woodwork. As you make your way into the Portugese ruin, you will pass over the station and continue down some themed corridors (inside the building) before you are outside again. You make your way down the side of the building, before going down some stairs and into the station area. You notice how great the theming looks - you could quite easily be by the sea! When you choose your row, the barrier will open and you will sit down before the bars are lowered and you begin to move forward and out of the Portugese castle.
The boat begins to turn towards the sky - and you rise at a very steep angle. The boat continues to rise and rise - to the maximum point of 100' (it is high!). As you curve out at the top, the chain lift slows dramatically, making you concerned for a brief moment before the music blasts out of the speakers which are attached to the track! The car then comes to a stop before you begin to revolve through 90 degrees, but you notice you are going the wrong way. You are now facing a no-go direction, where there is no track. The boat then suddenly begins to move backwards and you begin gaining speed rapidly through a dip before going up again to the other side. Your stomach will feel funny at this point - i warn every potential rider! The boat will then stop again before turning through 90 degrees again and facing the big, 100' drop! The car begins to move forwards and suddenly you find yourself doing 50mph down a steep angle, over a bunny hop, under a themed ship mast before SPLASH you are down! Some people will get wet, some will not. It's all great fun! In your excitement, you must not forget to keep an eye out for geysers which are there to get you wet - and will get you wet! The boat floats gently around the bay and as you head back into the station, a TV monitor shows the entire boat's photograph, which you can later buy. As you leave the boat and make your way out into the Portugal themed area, you have experienced a Mack Super Splash, which, in my opinion, beats the likes of Tidal Wave hands down as it provides a much fuller, richer ride experience and is able to do more things. Also, you don't get too wet in most of the seats.
SO overall, I personally prefer Poseidon as it's longer and more coaster-y, but for a Super Splash, Atlantica certainly fits the bill. On a hot day, this ride is wonderful and just the ticket! The theming is, as we have come to expect, superb and the drop and bunny hop are moments of great fun! Another great job from Europa Park!

PEGASUS OPENING CEREMONY
Pegasus has been officially opened by Roland Mack! The fabulous opening ceremony is now available to view. It takes the form of some archeologists digging and they discover some form of Pegasus relic. Fireworks and music accompany Pegasus' 'first' run and then there are some nice evening shots of the new rollercoaster. Shame the coaster lasts just 30 seconds from lift top to brakes, but hey - never mind.

Theming kicks the shrivelled ass out of the UK parks i hate to say!

Looks like a good little ride, but when i say little i mean little, it must be one of the shortest rides ever, you seem to go down a drop, do that horse shoe thing then do to turn arounds and thats it. Great looking cars though and i thought the opening was great.

Well, the reviews are pretty good. It's a quick little beast! 65kph to be exact, which is a speedy 43mph, which for a 'family kiddy' coaster is, well: FAST! The ride lasts 2 minutes 11 seconds in total, station to station.

I know this seems a bit stupid but seeing as Europa Park already have the best water coaster in Europe what was the point of building Atlantica. I have been on posidon and it looks much better than Atlantica, so what are they playing at. Surely they could of spent there money on a better copy of silver star but stand up or something even more exciting, but in my view this was an error that the park made in there judgement

The park is basically a show case of Macks products. They needed to showcase their new super splash ride even though it is similar to the watercoaster.

Absolutely - Europa Park is basically a showcase for Mack products so they wanted to get the worlds best Super Splash on site! Also, Poseidon is the parks most popular ride. Since queue's for Poseidon regularly reach 90 minutes on the very busiest days, the park thought that they would build another Water ride. Atlantica is different from Poseidon - the boats seat 16, and it's shorter and higher. Personally I prefer Poseidon, but Atlantica's ride sensation is very, very different to Poseidon since Atlantica is more like Tidal Wave at Thorpe Park (but better) wheras Poseidon is more like a proper coaster, but with Splash Down sections.

It sort of seems a bit like, wheres the point? From the video the splash seems some-what pathetic. Please correct me if im wrong, just going on what i can see from the video. Additionally the little drop in the middle again seems pointless. Tell me if i'm wrong.

The backwards drop on Atlantica is basically there to show off what Mack can do with some turntables. It actually makes you feel rather queezy and adds an extra element to the ride, rather than just having a hill and drop (like Tidal Wave for example). The splash is very good, and you certainly get damp. Look here: http://www.epfans.com/attraktionen/atla ... antica.wmv and you can see the splash. There is also a platform next to the drop where you can stand for a soaking. Right at the end of the video you can see a geyser go off

Why such a big event, i mean its not that much of an amazing ride tbh, imo. Why cant uk parks have such grand events.
