Hey,

Just read that as the title suggests, a new legoland is planned for Dubai.

Not a surprise to be honest, but Dubai really is looking like it will soon be the theme park capital of the world

To be honest, with this rediculous mass of tourism investment I see no reason why Dubai won't be able to sustain itself.

It really will be the theme park capital of the world. Now all it needs is Disney to show faith in it's sustainability and build a resort. When I'm older this place will most certainly rival Florida!

But surely it has no culture. I mean, everything about Dubai is entirely artificial. It's all brand new and sleek and plastic and euurgh. It just looks like one of the most depressingly fake, consumerist places on earth...

Exactly why my dad has vowed never to go back - It’s awful.

Of course, but again that is because there is no history behind it. Its like comparing a New town (say Milton Keynes) in the UK with it though and within years, the place will tell its own story but until them, it's filled with a pure bland of nothingness I'm afraid.

:P I cant think of any other scenario where you could make a valid comparison between Milton Keynes and Dubai

To be fair, whilst I don't dispute it's entirely artificial, you wouldn't go there for that kind of holiday. My parents never took me to Florida as they always maintained it was plastic and false (even though I would have liked to have gone as a child). Instead they prefer going to castles and places like that.

I can't wait to see Dubai develop - I just wish it was a little closer.

Ahh - my parents took me to Florida for exactly that reason. Usually we went places like camping in Cornwall and going walking or going to the Lake District but they decided that we should have one tacky, plastic, fake, fun holiday :P

Disney have plans and ideas for practically every country and location imaginable. However, thier current focus is on improving existing parks with £10billion alone earmarked for California, a rumoured fifth theme park for Florida (or major extension to Animal Kingdom) and further work in Europe, and Hong Kong.

It is also widely expected, Disney will focus any new developments in China or South America. Dubai is a possibility, but it doesn't really strike me as a Disney suitable location due to complete lack of culture.

Never stopped Florida from being a successful tourist trap.

I don't see how 'culture' effects the non-cultural places we all love anyway. Disney is aaall about 'artificial'. All it needs is a blank slate to morph into this sort of idealistic, western world.

There are varying different purposes for holidays. Dubai would clearly not be one to go sight seeing, but instead to visit theme parks - just like Florida. I mean, I'm sure many-a family holiday in Florida and never leave the Disney resort!

You can't get much more 'fake' than that, but it's terrific artificiality regardless. In fact, I'd much prefer fake fun than real boringness.

Disney's like Vegas. I think it's absolutley awesome there, and I can't even go in the "biggest pull" there - the casinos. I'd happily go back, even if there's nothing but artificial for miles around - perhaps I enjoy walking from a sandy bay with huge waves and palm trees to Egypt, where I can also enter a haunted house and get chased out, to England, to New York, New York for the most uncomfortable rollercoaster in the world.

But I don't know whether I would go to Dubai for a holiday - it is pretty much sandwiched between some not very nice countries ;)

They will be a topic about this from years ago, but not going looking for it. So thought I would start a new one.

Merlin have said they are going a head, with there plans for a park in Dubai. Thy hope to have it open for 2016. I do not really see it happening in this time frame. I have seen may parks come and go for Dubai. Lets hope this one gets build.

it's very simple with the new forum to search for older topics, so I have merged them.

There was supposed to be a Six Flags park opening there, but I haven't heard anything about it since.
