A mechanic's error was also why such tragedy happened.

There's alot more info, i suggest anyone interested to take a look at this forum topic where the boyfriend of Gemma Savage (the girl who died), gives us everything we need to know.

Popped to LWV yesterday and was miledly supprised. A family day out, but with a few laughs rather than thrill for the older people. Many of their rides seem semi-permonant (expept for The Ultimate, sewer rat, falls of terror). It was clean, the staff were really friendly (and rather hot too may i add?).

The Ultimate however needs to be looked at. We were in a group of 7, and 6 of us have bruised knee's today. It's a great ride in the way it throws you from side to side and you can't help but laugh for lack of breathing. But it is so unecessarily painful.

Ferris Wheel Approved
Lightwater Valley have been given the go-ahead from Harrogate Borough Council to erect a Ferris Wheel ride on the former Toad Hole splash pond!

Valley Mania unearthed plans back in April 2007, where we exclusively revealed that the park intended to install an 82ft high Ferris Wheel for the 2008 season. Now that the plans have been approved, it would be a safe bet to put money on seeing such attraction dominating the park's skyline come next season.

So what else do we know about this ride? Sources close to Valley Mania inform us the park are in contact with rides manufacturer 'Technical Park' - a company who specialise in Ferris Wheels. Using the information we have, we can now reveal the full details of this ride.

Colour wise, the main structure will be brown with blue/brown carriages. Now for the more technical aspects! Standing at 82ft, making it the park's second highest attraction, the Ferris Wheel holds 18 carriages, giving it a grand hourly capacity of 1100/1700 passengers. As you can see, this will be one of the biggest throughputs the park have, a guarantee minimal queuing.

Unfortunately, a Ferris Wheel doesn't seem too 'grand' and this attraction could to raise a few eyebrows but who knows, maybe the park will decide to add more than just one new attraction for 2008!

As always, we will keep you updated on any developments.

Just to let you know, the name has been announced - Lightwater Wheel, as named by myself, so there's my claim to fame finally.

Anyway, here is the news article posted on Valley Mania last night, includes details about Hornets Nest too.

Following discussion on our community forums, Lightwater Valley management have taken into account all suggestions forwarded by members and have finally decided on the name of the new 82ft ferris wheel attraction at the park. Lightwater Wheel was the chosen name as management believed simplicity worked best and everyone at Valley Mania agrees. Not only does the name tie in with the location and the idea of a water wheel, it gives the ride a sense of history; that the 'water wheel' has always been part of the local area.

Work on the foundations is progressing well and the target is of course to have the ride fully operational by opening day.

Names considered by management were Ure Noria, Mylen, Neptune's Cascade, Titan's Reel and Heron's Heights.

Everyone at Valley Mania would like to offer their thanks to Ashley Young who gave us the opportunity to get involved in the development of Lightwater Wheel. As ever, keep checking the forums to always be in the know of the latest news regarding the ride.

Moving on, Lightwater Valley will be launching a new website at the end of January.

They hope that the new site will have a much more contemporary feel and be updated more frequently than the current one in which they agree, remained static for too long. The target is of course to have a website that is a match for any other UK theme park.

The main theme park leaflet went to the printers on Wednesday and Valley Mania have an advance copy as soon as they come back. We will get this uploaded and available to you as soon as we can.

Full price entry for 2008 will be £16.95 for over 1.3m, an increase of £1 on 2007, & £14.95 if you're under 1.3m, an increase of 45p on 2007. We will be updating the opening times page as soon as we can.

All being well, Hornets Nest will be fully operational on the first day of the new season; it was in full working order just prior to being taken down for the winter months.

LWV managment really do extend a genuine and heartfelt apology to all Lightwater Valley customers who expected to be able to ride Hornets Nest through 2007; they accept that they let people down and offer no excuses.

On the other side of things, the park are currently in the process of preparing a new planning application for the Holiday Village and confidence is high that this one will be accepted. The 'Say Yes' campaign was a resounding success and management are grateful to everyone who continues to offer their support to their planned new development.

As the theme park market becomes ever more competitive, management are determined to secure the future of Lightwater Valley and to provide the park with the investment it needs. Everyone who works there believes very passionately in the park and they all want Lightwater Valley to be a great success for many years to come.

Finally, details are yet to be confirmed on whether any rides will be removed from the park over the winter and whether a new ride will follow Lightwater Wheel after strong rumours of a small child's ride and a new Carousel.

I have two plans for Lightwater Wheel aswell;

Looks like a nice addition. I havn't visited Lightwater Valley in a while. I should considering I'm quite close to the place.

Am I right in thinking this is replacing the Toad Hole? Shame, I loved that little ride ;)

Yes, Lightwater Wheel will sit on the former Toad Hole splash pond.

Unfortunately Toad Hole had an untimely death in June 2006, the boat de-railed, although it had many times before, and management decided to close the ride earlier than anticipated.

Gotta admit that The Toad Hole had a lot of potential if they'd have cleaned it up abit, added a water channel or whatever.

Could have been a bit like a log flume.

I always remember it being a very odd little ride, but one that was really fun with a group of mates!

And it had one of the longest queuelines in the park for what didn't seem to be a very popular attraction..

Quite looking forward to going back to lightwater next year, seems like they're doing quite well :)

Lightwater had a quick mention in Park World this week under an article about Technical Park, the manufacturers of the Lightwater Wheel:

I think I might pop down to LWV for a visit this year, haven't been for an absolute age now, probably around 10 years despite it being my local park! I still think the place needs some major development in order for it to keep up with the rest of the industry though. I know they say they've had a decent year last year, but the place has so much potential.

Excellent to see a nice family attraction come to the Theme Park, nice relaxing views of the countryside and the Park. Personally, I've never been to LWV, however I may be off on the 11th of April.

Nice to see a new family ride at Lightwater Valley as let's face it there's not much there except the Ultimate. :)
LiamSAFC

Actually, to be fair, its a nice secluded Theme Park, its nothing on the scale of Flamingo Land or Drayton Manor, and yes some of the attractions are a bit out-dated, but its not supposed to be a major Theme Park, just a nice little attraction in the middle of the countryside really.

Like I said earlier, nice to see they're updating and investing for the new season.
