I was at Fright Nights yesterday. The park was pretty quiet all day and was practically dead by the end of the evening.

Onto the mazes:

Experiment 10

[spoiler:2eu6ktrp]I can honestly say that I really enjoyed Experiment 10. I was expecting the traditional horror maze set up, so was taken by surprise when I ended up all alone in a pitch black cubicle. This is where the psychological element came into play. My terror and panic levels went sky high! I bet the staff manning the CCTV were having a right laugh at my expense

Thankfully I wasn't in the cubicle with the 'face'. :P

On release from the 'chamber' I was sent left, avoiding the crawling space. Instead I had to navigate through a disorientating slow strobing room before entering a pitch black room which looked as though it has a couple of paths to choose from. It's safe to say that I became extremely disorientated (again) at this point and had some female scare-actor screaming in my face until I managed to find the exit. Without all the faff it would have probably have made for a dull finale, but getting a tad lost actually enhanced things somewhat.[/spoiler:2eu6ktrp]

Se7en was awful (although the 'lust' section was pretty amusing ) and is WELL past its sell by date, The Curse still feels like a glorified version of the Halloween aisle at Tesco, Saw Alive was actually pretty decent (shame about the security guard tailing our party though :|) and The Asylum was the biggest let down of the night. Like Se7en, it has also become stale and needs to be put out of its misery in my opinion.

Who Is "Lez Cougan"?

Image

Not sure about you guys, but I think he is a fake nothing compared to Les Coogan.
I’ve decided to share my secret diary with the world to prove that WAR IS COMING. Lets see if this convinces all you blissfully naïve citizens, I’ve even got photo evidence to backup all of my theories and findings…

01.06.11 A strange island emerged from the murky depths of the lake at THORPE PARK. It appeared overnight…such phenomenon is only achievable via the force of something much greater th...an man

11.07.11 Contaminated rubble…..3 trucks were spotted dumping contaminated rocks and rubble onto the island, posing radioactive threats to all visitors of THORPE PARK!I have even seen people wearing protective suits and masks!

I am certain that this bizarre activity is somehow being controlled by THE SWARM…its power keeps on growing...WAR IS COMING!
Lez Cougan's Facebook page.

Hmm, do wonder about this it seems Thorpe know exactly what is going on. Not surprised really.

This page has been around a while, but the "release of the secret diary" thing is pretty recent. I think.

I'm loving the 'Missing Wall' - it's rather awesome to scroll around and recognise so many people. Really bringing the promotion to life :)

It was kind of freaky for me... Seeing everyone I know on a wall...

That video is bloody brilliant. I love it when my friends come up on the wall, and how it shows your house!

I still think the ride will be very short and very average, but the theming is looking better and better, especially with that huge church frame!

Great video and really freaky seeing your friends, I thought one had signed up first then more and more I recognised, then seeing your house. Great brainwave of an idea whoever came up with it.

My greatest fear is still with regards to the ride's intensity. I'm sure it'll be more Air than Nemesis in terms of force.

Do we think the chance of this having an IP attachment has now gone? Remember all the talk of the Gears of War link, would this be announced by now if it were the case (I did not follow Saw's construction)?

looking at the website is making me wonder weather we might get to see some sort of fire effects?!?
fredward

I would think it would have been announced by now... Since they have started the marketting

I would rather not have another link to gears of war! :P in my opinion it would be a terrible IP. Not because itll be bad but, it wont add anything to the ride. Just a waste of money.

So at this stage we have a total of 8 positive votes for X and 21 negative..
New coaster or Dark ride are the most popular ideas.
Keep X or Demolish it stand at 4 v 5 which is quite even..

Please tell me what you would do with X

Thanks dudes

The Pyramid can stay and I'd keep the colour scheme as it’s rather unique to Thorpe Park.

But the ride is a complete waste of space. Why it has such a large following I have no idea. I can only assume people find it funny just because it sucks so much, that's certainly the only appeal I've had for it. The layout is appalling. The constant breaking brings any form of pacing to a halt. There's no attempt at on ride theming at all.
Before anyone tries to point out all these supposed special effects to me I've been on X at least once a year for every year I've been visiting Thorpe Park and never have I seen any form of effect. If I've managed to miss them on all these re-rides then what chance does you're average guest have who would only visit once have.

I'm not fussed what they replace it with. A dark ride would be ideal but Thorpe Parks clientele don't really want a well themed dark ride. The Pyramid shape is not ideal for a thrilling compact ride either.

on the big poster for the swarm you can clearly see a kind of jet engine firing some flames near the riders face!! I thought straight away there must be some fire effects??? also shows water??

Tom, I think fortunately IP looks very unlikely! Merlin haven't done an IP coaster since Saw.

Simon, I think fire is definitely a possibility. Thorpe used to have fire effects on Tidal Wave.

Here is the fire effects on X2 (sort of a wingrider), is this what you had in mind?

I think the water is just the turn over the water where you come quite close to the water. I don't think there are any effects on that front. Although, the fire is probably very possible...

A new time-lapse camera has been set up by Thorpe. Unfortunately it looks like that it won't be online, but the Developer's Diary on Facebook will be using it for updates. Heres "today's" update. (even though the pictures from 2 days ago)

Image

This really shows now how far out the first drop really is going to come out over the water. Also, here are some shots of the lift hill. Credit to Idlewild at CF.

Edit - the latest time lapse image has been posted on the development diary, more of the lift hill has been erected.

I haven't posted for a while as I've been far, far too busy...

I thought, therefore, that you all deserved a treat. Here I present a bucket load of piccies of Swarm's construction from yesterday. The image quality is not all it could be as these were taken on my rusty ol' mobile - sorry.

And - for what it's worth - I think th13teen is pretty good, for what it is :)

Enjoy:

With the lift hill in the background:

A few shots from various vantage points around park:

In this one, you can see another (white) crane working on the other 'end' of the ride. Gives you some indication of sizing...

Getting closer:

Now a few pictures from the sunken gardens:

The 'back' end turnaround:

Construction of the station structure:

Hope they close off these gaps!

The lift hill and the support for the first hill with inversion (which will be about this height):

More pics to follow....!

There\'s plenty of room at the bottom!
