After looking at the map a second time, it really is quite funny, but also a disgrace. The map appears to be encouraging anti social and repulsive behaviour. The marketing guys must be out of their minds advertising the park in this way, first the chavy website, now this. The park have lost their sanity.

Haha, looking at the reaction to the new map I was wondering how bad it must be... and it is pretty awful. Trying to be 'cool' and focusing on a caricature of teenage humour is not working for them. Still, some of it is quite funny.

The refurb work in the park looks like a fantastic step in the right direction. Has Thorpe got a new manager, or have Merlin just decided to throw extra cash at the park?

Although some bits are a little over the top (the man with a telescope) it think its great, it's funny, witty and gives the places some personality.

People have become obsessed with overusing the word chav, the map just appeals to people who have a sense of humour and don't take everything so seriously. It's nice to see something that isn't so PC for once!

Oh look who it is
Image. MWECH lol After a third look at the map, I've changed my opinion on it. I like the new map. It's witty, humorous although it features those irritating heads.

Err, who is it?

That map is just stupid, how can security take on any of these anti-social acts if the damn park map promotes them. Thorpe may want to be the Thrill capital of the UK but they don't have to be the Chav capital to be sucessful.

Jeez, I think some of your opinions are completely blown out of proportion.

Lets get a bit of reality shall we, its a map, something handed out to guests which is very rarely looked at, at least not in the detail you guys look into it. Do you really think people will go oooo look theres people having sex near rumba rapids, lets go and do it?!

Its also not an ordnance survey map, people go to theme parks to have fun, you dont see them there with their compasses pointing out that SAW has only 6 seats or stealth has 13 trains. Its supposed to be light hearted and its a cartoon. How many of you seriously think, oh no someones puking on Stealth, Im not going on that ride because theres a cartoon of someone being sick. It just seems that the majoirty of people on here are completely uptight and dare I say it pathetic, its a map. Its such a small park the map is pretty much obsolete anyways, you can see all the rides. Theres a million and one posters out there similar to this, its just like wheres wally but a theme park version.

Chav, Chav, Chav, thats all anyone on here posts about, people that exhibit anti social behaviour are everywhere, the supermarket, the shopping centre, the cinema, EVERYWHERE, pinpointing thorpe for being chav capital is completely obsurd and ridiculous. Even if the park changed the style of map and the marketing, chavs will still go there, look at Alton Towers and Chessington, they appeal to families but you still get chavs there. Anti social behaviour and lack of respect is learnt from parents the majority of the time and theres nothing any of us can do about it, its life.

Sorry to have a rant but the majority of posts on here are always negative and relate to thorpe in the past. Times change and the park has moved on and whilst the negativity for the park increases on forums like these, it seems the majority of the views expressed are completely outdated as the park continues to see increased numbers of visitors. In the grand scheme of things, for the general public its one day out in the whole of the 2010 season, they wont examine the map for every tiny detail and over analyse EVERYTHING and think how its portraying the park, they are there to have a good time with their friends. The park is not there to educate on the rights and wrongs of life and how people shoud behave, (that should already be engrained in individuals by their parents and at school) the park is there to provide a thrilling and exciting day out, which is ultimately provided by the rides, attractions and people they visit with.

Interesting counterargument there Jigsaw and not without its points however a few things of note

- Although the map doesn't need to be an ordinance survey map, it does need to be practical to use if you are new to the park, this one isn't

- No-one commented on whether the row numbers and depiction of rides was accurate, it never is on themepark maps Alton included.

- Depicting anti-social behavior on the maps does indicate to people that is acceptable and if it doesn;t it certainly shows which direction the park think they need to go with their guest demographics, many feel this is not the type of person they need to be a successful thrill park and thorpe do suffer with security issues.

- Most on here have never really slated the park though it has been appearing run-down over the last season, but a lot of positive feedback has come of the pictures of the theme spruce up in amity and the entrance area, and we are often as critical if not more so of the towers than we are of thorpe.

- Come on a meet with us i can guarantee you wont think we're uptight then, we just think it sets out the direction of a park many of us like to visit which we find distasteful, not so much the vomiting but the sex and violence displayed just seem needless.

Actually, I think people just find the images of Urination, Sexual Intercourse, Exposure, Drinking, Murdering, Vomiting and general Anti Social behaviour that is portrayed on the new Thorpe Park map, rather distasteful and out of place for what is a theme park day out. However, the way Thorpe has gone since 2006 (marketing wise) is a love of controversy so it shouldn't really come as much suprise.

I am just glad the most parks don't go down such a route. Thorpe aim at teenagers, yet many of the references on the map are wholly inappropriate for such an age range.

That said, I do find parts of the new map humourous, and it is enjoyable to find things on there (I love some of the dudes) - but quite simply, some of it is just not really what I would like to see theme parks associating themselves with so "blatantly" as this.

For anyone who hasn't seen it this was in The Sun today. Read it at work on my break.

Image

It says
Grim theme park maze is slammed!

A theme park was slammed last night for a grisly attraction that features mock disembowelling - and is open to children.

Thorpe Park promises an "atmosphere of terror" by recreating scary moments from the 18-certificate horror movie series SAW.

Punters will enter a maze where actors will stage scenes in which a man appears to saw off his own foot, another has his stomach sliced open and a manacled woman hangs from the ceiling. Others have their eyes and mouths "sewn up". The park in Chertsey, Surrey, will merely advise that the sights may not be suitable for under 12s

Clinical Psychologist Dr Angela Wright warned violent films can cause aggression in children. She added: "The link may be stronger with this interactive experience. Thorpe's Mike Vallis said: "guests want us to thrill and excite them."
Ya... :| I still think the whole idea of a permanent maze is a fail idea. Wheres my queue eating coaster?!

Also...

The map sucks!

EDIT: Just realised this had already been posted. I skim read the topic and couldn't see it!

Not sure if it's been mentioned but there is a review of the Saw maze online, reckon it's pretty accurate but not that scary due to the fact you are just led through scenes from the film so there is no real danger apart from the odd actor jumping out on you, they also indicated it features nudity, bloody hell what actor would do that on a daily basis for a bunch of laughing teenagers!

It would be my guess that it'd be a dummy/animatronic that was naked! Otherwise I think it would fall foul of some public decency law. :)

Good point, the review just said that it features nudity and goes on to say that this is a first for this kind of attraction. Suppose that could mean anything :?
DiogoJ42

I really, really hope this maze gets shut down ASAP. Or better yet, burnt down.
Scarymb

As it's our review online I will just add this

yes there was nudity at the launch party but if you look at the Sun pictures the lady in the same position is clearly in a body suit

We still cant swear if the b**bs were real as we were exiting the room when we saw them. Could well have been an elaborate body suit. Even so - I'd be surprised if they are there all the time

As for the "burn this attraction" down comment - wow! - how can you feel so vitriolic towards something you havent even experienced?

As was posted on another forum. Just stop stressing about things - go to the preview this weekend or opening next week and just go in with an open mind and enjoy it.

The map is growing on me although some of it is a little stupid some of it is pretty funny :P

Over the last few days I realized I do not like their new image although in time it may grow on me. I just think the old logo was better and general feel to their image was nicer however I go to THORPE PARK for the rides and coasters and I think the park itself is amazing so I'm not gonna let the new image get in the way of my fun :P

I will not be experiencing SAW - Alive though due to the fact the Saw films scare the poo out of me but I think many guests will love it!

^ Lol? Scared of saw? I love the blood and the guts and i suppose some times i laugh at them!
Seriously thought the Saw movies have one hell of a great -and confusing- storyline, give them a go! (Saw 6 FTW!)(FTW = For The Win!)

Anyway, back on topic, the person who stated 'burn it down' before they have actually seen it or riden/walkthrough it are mentally disabled, who could estiamte and judge a ride on a report/review?Anyone care to enlighten me to the answer?

PS: The map certainly looks individual but diobolical! :|

I should imagine he's talking about the concept, which is certainly grim, rather than this particular execution of it (think of it like someone stating that they want to burn down a new superstore, not because they believe that the shelves are of poor quality and the décor is unpleasant, but because they detest the supermarket chain).

Some, myself included, would question the sanity of those who find the kind of things depicted in SAW: Alive enjoyable, so although Diogoj42's view was perhaps a little extreme, and although I personally wouldn't go that far, I can see where he's coming from.

I certainly won't be giving it a go.
DiogoJ42

The whole concept of SAW is "mentally disabled". Why anyone would find that kind of thing entertaining is beyond me. I enjoy gory films... Braindead is a classic. But there is a big difference between comedy gore, like zombie films, and torture porn, like SAW and Hostel.

The reason I have written this off before I've been on it is simple: I'm never going on it!

The other thing that offends me is the 'age restriction'... or lack of. If it were for over 16's (18 would be unnecessary) it wouldn't be so bad. But to allow kids into this kind of thing is just wrong.

And what kind of masochist would go into this maze, knowing they will be electrocuted?
