The enthusiast community in general give some rides more credit than they deserve in my opinion. Nemesis for example. Don't get me wrong, it's an absolutely incredible ride, and is in my top 5, but if you ask me it's one of those rides which gets more attention than I feel it should.

There are a lot of overrated rides out there, but there are also a lot of underrated ones. That's just how the coaster and themepark world seem to be. I just go with my opinion sometimes, as at the end of the day I'm the one who rides it, so that's all that matters. If it excites me and gives me that rush then it's done its job :)

Ooooh... this is interesting. In this group, I've only actually ridden Avalanche, and that I don't particularly remember. Besides the the Disney coasters, I don't really know much about any of them, either. I job for POV footage, indeed!

After due consideration; POV watching, reading what reviews I can find of the coasters in this group; my vague memories of Avalanche... here are my rankings, in reverse order.

Vicky The Ride - Laughably bad, and almost certainly won't be included in next year's poll. Also, Vicky: The Ride? This Vicky person is one dull whore.

Drachenritt - Half-arsed theming (which actually looks worse than the coaster being completely unthemed) and a layout which could easily send me to sleep, excluding the bunny hops. Next!

Avalanche - It's ridiculously short, unthemed, and at Pleasure Beach Blackpool. But it's fun while it lasts!

Rock n Roller Coaster - Urgh. Dark coasters which I haven't ridden... so difficult to form an opinion on. So, please, forgive me for not thinking much of it... granted, the lighting looks pretty spectacular, but the layout itself looks rough and uninspired. Oh, and I swear that's RCT3 tack!

Big Thunder Mountain - I'm going to say the same of this as I did Colorado Adventure in the first group. It's beautifully themed... but the coaster itself? Deary me that looks dull... and I still can't quite get over the idea of multiple lift hills, which completely spoil the pacing of the ride, expecially when they're so goddamn slow!

Piraten - OK... I've watched the POV a fair few times... and I don't understand how I could possibly rank this coaster highly? It looks like a drunken combination of Rita and TH13TEEN, the latter of which I do enjoy, but is generally hated upon on here. Am I missing something, and this is really so much better? Besides... it's completely unthemed. However, I've backing it to go through regardless, because of a combination of reviews I've heard from those who have ridden it, and the competitors in this particular group.

Loup Garou - Looks fun, it really does. There's plenty of air-time in there, it would seem, and it appeals to families, undoubtedly. But it could do with being twice the length...

Jetline - Above all this coaster just looks like really good fun! Granted, it's phenomenally hideous (not as much so as Knightmare), but if there's even half as much air-time in that layout as there appears to be, then that is one hell of a coaster.

Fluch von Novgorod - It's unfortunate that you can't make out much of the indoor sections from a POV of the ride... and, alas, as much as I don't want to seem biased towards coasters that I've ridden (after all, I've only ridden one in this group!)... that's probably what's cost it top spot. From what I can make out, it looks like good fun, if a tad on the rough side. Will undoubtedly go through, partly due to this group being so weak.

Batman La Fuga - Oh, fine! It's a clone and it's ugly... but it looks phenomenal regardless! Perhaps not on the same scale as Montu or Black Mamba... but it honestly looks a whole lot more fun than Nemesis. Besides, smooth B&M inverts are guaranteed to be good, right? Still... it's not one which I'll be particularly routing for in the next round.

Weak group. Seriously. Any one of my top three from group one would be ranked in first place in this group, but ah well! :P

A fairly tight group I'd say...Anyway, my choices in reverse order (* denotes that I've ridden it (yes I pinched that off someone else :P ))

10.  Vicky - The Ride - Sounds like the local slapper!  Unfortunately doesn't look as much fun......

9.  Drachenritt - Looks like a pretty average Gerstlauer Bob, and there are far better examples out there.

8.  Big Thunder Mountain* - Some may think it's a little harsh to rank this so low.  I can't deny it looks absolutely stunning, but as much as I do like themeing, I'm more of a track and train man, and this ride does absolutely nothing for me in that sense.  I can appreciate it's a world class family coaster though, just not for me.

7.  Loop Garou* - A good fun ride, whilst being nothing special.  In terms of Vekoma woodies, I much preferred Robin Hood though.

6.  Avalanche* - Still my favourite of the 4 Mack Bobsleds I've ridden, if only for the crazy part near the bottom, it really is quite thrilling!  Biggest criticism would be it's very, very short.

5.  Rock n Roller Coaster* - Probably my favourite DLP coaster, partly due to one insanely rough SM:M2 ride that has scarred me for life.  The on-board audio really plays a big part, and the all round themeing is top notch as you'd expect.  The ride itself is really good fun but nothing more, and it seems to really meander through the latter parts.

4.  Jetline - Similarities to Knightmare are obvious, and as a massive Knightmare fanboy this really appeals to me.  I need to ride it asap.

3.  Batman La Fuga - Looks like a great B&M invert.  Sure it's a clone, but it's the only one in Europe so I don't see that as a major problem.  As much as I'm a bit of an Intamin fanboy, a good old skool B&M invert takes some beating!  It was very close between my top 3 in this round and had I actually ridden them all, this would have a very good shot at the top spot.

2.  Fluch Von Novgorod* - Absolutely love it!  One of the best all round experiences I've encountered in a coaster.  World class themeing and immersion, it's incredible what such a small park have done with this ride.  The quality of the queueline is close to DVH, but unlike DVH the actual coaster part is pretty god damn good.  Sure the layout isn't the best, I much prefer Speed in terms of track and train, but the rolling launch is awesome, the pre show is impressive and the pitch black section was great fun.  Even the exit is great, with a slide and a little maze! [/fap]

1.  Piraten - Looks like an awesome little airtime machine, I have to ride this coaster soon!  Or a UK park need to build one tbh.  In complete contrast to my number 2 choice, this is all about the track and train.  I've only really heard rave reviews. I've even read reviews claiming that the airtime is stronger than EGF's, which for a coaster this size is pretty scary!

I felt inspired to share my voting (and thoughts) in this group - so here goes.

1. Piraten - I've not riden it, but I really want to.  It appears to be an Intamin air time machine, that they sometimes do so well.

2. Fluch von Novgorod - I'd been told that it was good, but since I'm not a fan of Eurofighters I had my doubts.  Taken purely as a coaster, it's not really that special.  But include all the themeing, dark sections, and the way the transport sytem works - and I think it deserves a high ranking.

3. Big Thunder Mountain - I can see why some don't rate this.  It's not a great coaster, but as a ride experience I think it is fantastic.  I just love all the elements in it - including the silly animatronics, and the fact that it is on an island (but the station isn't).

4. Loup Garou - I've not ridden it, but I have seen a POV.  It looks a bit slow on that, but I do think that woodies usually ride better than they look.  Although since I have not ridden any Vekoma woodies I may find that I've been too optmisitic

5. Jetline - I've not ridden it, but it looks like a good Scwarzkopf.

6. Drachenritt - I have ridden this, and found it to be a fun coaster.  I felt that the themeing was quite good, and the interaction with the 'castle' that houses one of their shows worked well.

7. Rock n Roller Coaster - I'm not as 'blown away' by this as most, but it's not bad ;)

8. Avalanche - Yes, it's too short (but aren't most coasters really?)  But it is fun, and the feeling of not being fastened to the track does give a different ride experience.  It's arguably the most honestly themed bobsled coaster - it's themed to a bobsled!  (Although the lift hill doesn't fit into that I suppose)

9. Batman La Fuga - I've not ridden it, but I have ridden several of the clones in the USA.  Maybe it is the fact that they are all clones that taints my view, but I just don't find them a great coaster

10. Vicky – The Ride.  I've ridden other coasters of this type, and I find them lacking.

Heres my vote:

10. Avalanche - Looks short and doesn't really seem to have much going for it. Next!

9. Vicky - The Ride - Seems like a fun little ride, but doesn't make me compelled to go and ride it.

8. Drachenritt - The lift looks really well themed, but it all seems to dissolve afterwards. Other than a few parts in the last section, looks mostly average.

7. Rock n Roller Coaster - Not a massive fan of dark coasters, this ride is fun, but doesn't wow me.

6. Loup Gardou - Seems like a good solid woodie, just doesn't excite me much.

5. Jetline - The first drop on this looks very impressive, the second section doesn't look as good (and is not very pretty), but the tight turns look like fun.

4. Batman la Fuga - I've heard good things about these rides, but they just seem a little...bland. I guess I'm comparing it to other, vastly more impressive tides of this type.

3. Big Thunder Mountain - I really like this ride, even if the coaster section itself is lacking. One thing I love about theme park rides is the atmosphere they create, and this does seem to have a lot.

2. Piraten - I'm sure this is much better than the pov makes it out, but it still looks like a cracking coaster.

1. Fluch Von Novgorod - Looks really, really good. Atmosphere, pacing and themeing all seem to be covered well.

:)

I'll * next to everything I've ridden, and ** next to everything I've ridden a clone of. Shall we all adopt that system? :)

1. Piraten
Because it looks absolutely phenomenally awesome, a perfect coaster track-and-train.

2. Novgorod
Because it looks absolutely phenomenally awesome, a perfect coaster theming & experience-wise.

3. Batman **
Been on a clone of this, and it's just an absolute powerhouse of a ride, the forces are simply incredible. Nemmy's helix all the way through. Really amazing inverts.

4. Jetline
I love Knightmare, and this basically looks like a better version of Knightmare, better themed and landscaped and in a much better park.

5. Big Thunder Mountain
Sumptuous to look at, but I hear the track layout is bland compared to Cali and even Florida BTM.

6. Drachenritt
Unlike everyone else, I think this looks really quite awesome! Well-themed and LONG!

7. Avalanche *
I like this coaster, and it's really very intense compared to Europa's and Efteling's bobs. However, too short and rubbish throughputs. Nice station though!

8. Loup Garou
This looks so boring I can't even be bothered to insult it in a clever way.

9. Vicky
*yawn*

10. R'n'R **
Went on the Floridian version. It was rough as hell, the launch is underwhelming, the restraints hurt and the track layout is absolute crap after the inversions.

Schwarzkopf !!! I love this Ride. The first and the second Drop are awesome and the Coaster give u a lot of G-Force and Fun. Thumbs Up.

2) Piraten
Also a really good Ride. I Ride it in the evening and the Coaster is really powerfull. Intamin = POWER

03) Batman
Not the best Layout, but really intense

04) Avalanche
I love the Bob Coasters from Mack, not as good like the one in Park Asterix but better then the One in EP.

05) Drachenritt
Funny Gerstlauer Ride. Rubbish Park, but this Ride brings u a lot of Fun.

06) Loup Garou
Funny Woody, but not the best one.

07) Fluch von Novgorod
Too short. The Launch is intense and the first Airtime hill is awfull. But not more.

Hmm, interesting group, a few coasters I have never heard of?!! Vicky, The Ride? Seriously.
There doesn't actually seem to be a poor coaster in this group, so rating the lower ones is quite tricky. They all look fun.

1. Piraten
Airtime monster. Would love to see one of these built somewhere more convenient to get to!

2. Batman La Fuga *
I have ridden four of these clones. Constantly intense, nice twisty layouts, they are slightly headache inducing and disorientating. I think Batman La Fuga could be my favourite due to the building and queue line theming and the fact that it is SO FRICKIN LOUD.

3. Rock n Roller Coaster *
I'm a big fan of Rock n Roller Coaster and having just been on the Florida version recently, I was reminded of how much I enjoyed the layout. Not too rough (I think I am prefect size for the restraints), nice effects inside and now upgraded so I hear. Prefer Florida's story, but the Paris version gets my #3 spot.

4. Big Thunder Mountain *
I'm sure Fluch is better, but it is BTM! BTM Paris is stunning. The tunnel back from the island is a great ending to the ride. Yes, the coaster section is slightly dull, but as long as there are no rocks falling on your head it's a very nice Disney ride.

5. Fluch von Novgorod
I hear great things about this. I would like to experience it to rate it higher. Still it makes my top 5.

6. Jetline
This looks nice. Haver never been on Knightmare I can't quite judge how it rides, but from the POV it looks like it packs a punch.

7. Loup Garou
This looks like a very nice wooden coaster. Very pretty and nicely landscaped. POV suggests some nice little pops of airtime.

8. Avalanche *
Avalanche is a nice bobsled coaster. All the others I have ridden are better, but the station building is stylish, and its a nice fun little ride.

9. Drachenritt
Again, this looks a nice little coaster. Like the building theming.

10. Vicky – The Ride
Daft name, but this looks really good fun. Shame it comes in at #10 really, but sadly in this group I can't rate anything below it.

*Coasters I have ridden.

1. Piraten – no contest really, looks absolutely amazing.

2. Batman – old-school B&M, what’s not to love?

3. Jetline **- I’m a huge Knightmare fan, and this looks at least as good, bonus points for not looking so hideous.

4. Fluch Von Novgorod * - This isn’t quite as thrilling as I’d hoped, but an awesome ride nonetheless, also featuring an H&S nightmare slide at the exit.  NOV-GO-ROD!

5. RnRC * – my favourite Disney coaster.  I’m a sucker for a good light show.

6. Avalanche* - I’m quite a fan of this, the transition into the ORP point is amazing.  Not good enough to go through though.

7. BTM * - I can see why people like it, but it’s just too dull for me.

8. Loup garou – seems pretty average from POVs

9. Drachenritt – Looks all right, but nothing spectacular.

10. Vicky - meh

On a few very rare video’s this looks awesome but on most the layout just seems so bland and forgettable. I really wanted to vote this ride higher. Such a shame

Although at first thought you may consider this a good idea, there are a number of reasons why I don't think it's suitable to do something like this:

- If they were genuine votes, it puts people off voting for what they actually want to vote for and potentially could steer them toward voting how others vote - going against the whole reason we had the rating system in the first place.
- If the votes are for tactical purposes and/or for trolling reasons then that could potentially encourage further voting in this way, perhaps from even more members.

As it stands at the moment, the number of votes going off on a tangent barely have an effect on the outcome of the poll.  So although some may be voting differently for whatever reason, it's far far away from affecting the results.

Let's just ignore the abnormalities and enjoy the poll, it seems a shame to dwell on a few rogue votes considering the hard work that Chris and Dan have done to have this up and running for a further year :).

I've found it very hard to rank some of the coasters here and watching the POVs just now really changed my views on some of them. I was always sure of my number 1 spot but from there down to number 10 it was hard to decide. Anyway, this is what I have gone for:

10. Vicky The Ride - I wish I didn't have to put this in last place! It looks a lovely little ride with some very good theming however the ride itself seems so boring and it doesn't really do anything. For that reason it had to be last, but it looks a good coaster for the park it is in.

9. Avalanche - Quite simply I am not a massive fan of these coasters, they don't really do anything for me.

8. Loup Garou - It looks ok but nothing at all special. It never really seems to get going and for me there are much better coasters in this group.

7. Drachenritt - I love the look of most Gerstlauer Bobsleds and this is no exception. Although it doesn't seem to be one of the best ones I still think it would be fantastic fun to ride and it also has some nice theming.

6. Big Thunder Mountain - I hear such fantastic things about this ride and I cannot deny that the theming looks quite simply incredible. However as a coaster it does not seem to live up to the hype, at least not judging from POVs. I assume this is another coaster that you have to actually ride to fully appreciate as from POVs I can't understand how people put it as their number 1 in this group!

5. Batman la Fuga - I think if I had not ridden a clone of this over the summer I would have placed it second or third in this group. However for me Batman as Six Flags Great Adventure was really not that fun largely due to the fact that it was just too intense for too long. It was a relief to reach the breaks and I came off feeling rather sick and dizzy; not really what I want from a coaster. However despite all this it cannot be denied that these are good coasters hence there are so many of them.

4. Jetline - A somewhat surprising fourth place from me. I really enjoyed Knightmare this year and this is obviously very similar. Going off Knightmare, I'd imagine this will also really pack a punch and be great fun to ride.

3. Fluch von Novgorod - This certainly looks like one of the better Eurofighters. Some very nice theming and it also seems rather thrilling. I'd love to ride this coaster as I feel that POVs probably do not do it justice.

2. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster - I have been on the equivalent of this in Florida and I really did enjoy it so for me the Paris version deserves my number 2 spot.  I found it to be great fun and it just really worked well; it's fair to say it exceeded my expectations by a long shot.

1. Piraten - What is not to love about this coaster? Fun, thrilling and full of airtime! I desperately want to ride this and for me it is in a league of its own when compared to the other coasters in this group. The only thing it lacks is theming but when a coaster track and train looks this good I'm not so fussed. We need an Intamin Mega-Lite in the UK!

In my opinion it's 6 out of the 10 coasters that stand a chance of getting through; Piraten, RnR, Fluch, Batman, Jetline and BTM. I honestly would not like to say which one I think is going to miss out and I think it will be very close. I suspect it may be either Batman or either of the Disney coasters.

As Craig has said, I don't plan on publishing any further names against votes (although I will for the final, as I did last year). Many people post their votes in the thread - invariably, those who may have voted abnormally for whatever reason do not - but the less publication of this the better.

As much as there are abnormalities (the same goes for the current round of viting) - these are not massively affecting any outcomes and the kick that said people may get from such tactics is practically diminished compared to previous years, such is the quality of the new system of voting in place - which is brilliant.

I do plan on announcing the total number of "1st place" and "last place" awards for each coaster though from the next round, so watch out for that.

For now, enjoy the poll!

:)

My (very brief) vote:

1. Fluch von Novgorod - My favourite coaster, by far, out of all I've ridden. Potentially second favourite ride overall. Love it to pieces :D

2. Big Thunder Mountain - Excellent theming, great fun to ride. Love the whole concept of it being in the middle of a lake.

3. Rock n Roller Coaster - Another brilliant coaster, though probably slightly less so than BTM.

4. Piraten - Don't quite see the hype for this - the POV I watched looked very enjoyable, but not much more. Still, definitely want to try it some time.

5. Jetline - Looks epic for the first third or so, but then seems to fizzle out. So many block brakes that seem to trim...

6. Batman la Fuga - Looks fun, but no better than say Inferno or something.

7. Vicky the Ride - Lacks any kind of thrill by the looks of it, but still seems really enjoyable.

8. Drachenritt - Dull looking layout, but the theming seems impressive (though not Disney/Europa/Fluch standards)

9. Loup Garou - Meh.

10. Avalanche - Out of the bobsleds I've ridden, this was the most boring, and definitely seems the most boring out of this group.
Cheese

I found this a really tricky group. Having only been on Avalanche from this lot I wasn't able to choose based on experience of them, and some are better known or better regarded than others for various reasons. There were two main groups of rides that I thought seemed fairly level with each other, so it was difficult to justify why a coaster should be ranked better than another.

10. Drachenritt - It looks mildly enjoyable, but a bit uninspiring and half-arsed in both layout and theming.

9. Vicky: The Ride - The station looks good, but out on track there's not much to see. Spinning coasters are tricky to judge from POV videos, but I found something about the ride more interesting than Drachenritt. Just a shame about the name...

8. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Avec Aerosmith (cough) - I have absolutely no idea what the layout's like inside that shed. The theme looks alright, but from what I've heard about this ride and my own limited knowledge of Vekoma coasters, the trains probably take the shine off the overall package.

7. Big Thunder Mountain - The layout looks deeply uninspiring, and the lift hills are massive flow breakers. The theming does look fantastic though. I'm prepared to accept that this is a ride you need to experience to understand.

6. Avalanche - I really enjoy this ride; it's really been a highlight of my two PBB visits this year. The station might be cliched, but it's done to a good standard. The coaster itself is a bit short, but that crazy charge to the bottom is great!

5. Loup Garou - It might not look like anything special, but it does look like fun.

4. Batman La Fuga - The surroundings and fact that it's a clone mark it down, but no business in their right mind would duplicate a bad design. A relentless selection of unpredictable-looking twists and turns, and I'd expect a lot of force and a lot of noise to boot.

3. Jetline - I really, really enjoyed Knightmare this year, and this is obviously much the same unitl you notice the first drop tunnel and S-bend instead of airtime crest before the psychodrop block brake. The block brakes appear to have more of an effect though? Grona Lund looks like an intriguing park to visit, and this is one of the biggest reasons why I'd like to go some time.

2. Fluch Von Novgorod - I wanted to give it the top spot, but a) it's a Eurofighter, the two examples of which I've been on having felt somewhat unrefined, and b) I don't know what's happening in the dark at the end. The outdoor section doesn't look overly exciting either if truth be told, but it looks like a superb experience when taken as a whole.

1. Piraten - Completely unthemed, and that's utterly criminal given how enjoyable the ride hardware looks (assuming it's not got that Rita shake). For this reason I didn't want to give it the top spot, but I begrudgingly did so anyway as nothing else in the group looked more worthy. It'd be really nice to see one of these built closer to home, and with some landscaping at the very least.

Xpress at Walibi Belgium has the same layout (as near as makes no difference anyway), apparently it's rubbish though - RnRC relies heavily on the lighting and on-board audio.

Could someone who's been on Fluch Von Novgorod explain what the on ride effects are this year?

I've watched 2 videos of the ride, 1 when it opened in 2009 and another from 2010 and the props are completely different.

In the 2009 version there are several animated scarecrows.

In 2010 there's something that looks like a smoke screen of a guy wafting a sword around and lots of projection effects throughout the ride.

I actual thought the scarecrows worked better but overall the lighting has improved which made the scene at the end much more shocking. In my opinion they still need to do something with the bottom of the vertical lift before I can claim it a great themed ride. It always feels jarring to see a black painted MDF midway through a really atmospheric ride.

The scarecrows were moved from the first scene into the queue line, I've only seen the current version so can't really compare, but the current arrangement looks amazing.

I suspect some POVs don't do the lift hill much justice as they have night vision (or lights) making the bottom of the lift look worse than it seems on-ride.
