Surprised this hasn't been mentioned already...

Seems like a very interesting project and the outcome will be even more so! The trains (which can be seen being installed below) look extremely comfortable - very swish looking as well (image here and here). The manufacturer claimed at IAAPA the ride would run very similarly to a wooden coaster due to the track style... although I'm not connived, I think it will end up feeling like a steel coaster. The layout however looks really jazzed with some wacky track work, plus I expect it will be very smooth! I think we could see similar projects pop up if this turns out to be a success...

That looks absolutely insane, I remember reading about this a while ago and I was in two minds about it. It's weird structure rather reminds me of the old style k'nex coaster. The twisted rails look more like strands of plastic than steel.

They are photo's!

This is a real project, it opens in spring/summer 2011
Mr P

To be fair, it does seem like it's too good to be true.
When this opens, it is going to be immense! Can't wait for those first testing videos, to see the epic trains smashing their way around this twisted terror!
:D

I know what you mean, the entire thing just looks insane!

And to be honest, it wont surprise me if the trains smash their way 'OFF' of that twister Terror !
Bear

I've been following this project since it started, and it looks absolutely IMMENSE!

I'll be keeping an eye out for the first sniff of a POV on YouTube... :sus:

So let me get this straight: It's a Steely trying to look like a Woody, by having wooden supports... :-k

... Now where have I head that before? :?

Well if the general public didn't think woodies looked unsafe before, they sure will now :P

Not quite.

It once was a Woody now trying to remain a Woody while actually being a Steely. :P

Hmmmm... been following this for a while now and it's really interesting. I think it's going to be one of those coasters that's either unrideably awful and a complete disaster for the park that'll get torn down in a few years or one of the best coasters in the world.

As to whether it's a woodie or a steelie... I think there's so many combinations these days that, like gender, it should be defined by how the park choose to self-describe it. Sort of like how Splash Mountain, while technically a coaster, is always classed as a log flume. :)

So it's a woodie. :)

Steel track = Steel rails + steel crossties = Steel coaster

I'm not sure I really understand what they are doing with this project.
It certainly looks, erm...interesting, but seriously ugly.
I will be very interested to see how it rides, and wether they will be doing any more work on the wooden structure. It kind of looks half torn down, with a new weird steel track installed.
Very odd. Like the trains though :D
Blaze

Track looks really, really great. Less keen on the trains. They look really quite crap, and what's with those stupid perspex boards?

Still, that track is gorgeous =P~

Well, I hope it's ready for June 2011. (Yes, I've got a trip planned :))

I know there are many schools of thought as to what makes a woddie a woodie, although I like the one that defines it by the running rails. On that basis, the ride will open as a steelie.

Although it will be interesting to compare it with the likes of El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure, which some desribe as a woodie that rides like a steelie.

I do have to say that some of those sections look pretty extreme though for the type of coaster.
Blaze

Yeah, I'd class it as a steelie-hybrid.

On the trains. I think they'd look good on an Intamin Accelerator, but not on a woodie (or a steelie on wooden supports, at lease :P )

I disagree, I think the trains look excellent. Yeah, they look a little tacky and it's a shame you can see thee whole of the wheel configuration. However, I like how they've made the restraints into a kind of saddle and generally how it looks very 'Texasy'. :D

I think it'll be the best bit of theming on the ride though, after all, this is Six Flags. :P

As for the woodie/steelie debate. I'd go for a Hybrid. The Voyage has steel supports and wooden track, this has wooden supports (granted there are some steel supports but most modern woodies have those) and steel track. So in theory, that makes sense.

It looks incredible though, the track work looks absurdly twisty - I'm looking forward to a POV. :)
