That has been pointed out, James97 has posted a corrected version above.

What was the SE,
Im soo sad that there might not be one! Still a fab coaster but it does not have that special Alton touch to it :-(
Aw common lad you're kidding right? Nemesis does not have a cheap gimmick and its one of the greatest coasters in the world. When will people realise IT DOES NOT NEED A SECRET ELEMENT TO MAKE IT GREAT. Think TH13TEEN...

It has Altons touch all over it. Look at the Marmaliser! The Marketing!
Ok, I forgot about Nemesis (KILL ME NOW ;) ) But my pint still stands! and i don't think there was any need for that.... haha ;) :P

Didn't John Wardley say in an interview that you had to ride The Smiler to find out its other secret element? The game also points to that with the ability to unlock several hidden secrets when the ride opens. All this just points to something on the trains IMO...

Nearly correct but the first shots of the station and the shot before the first lift hill were correct. Its just the POV that was incorrect. Near enough though! :D

To all who are speculating about the Secret Element.

The secret was 14 inversions. There is nothing else. This is world record breaking.

Alton Towers did release a statement which said there was a second secret element. This was later revised and it came to our attention it was merely a typo on the press release.

Please do not pester Mr Wardley with unnecessary emails asking him for more details on the ride, he is very busy at the moment completing work on The Smiler and doing media interviews. All will be revealed soon enough and TowersTimes will continue to bring you the latest news.

Thank you.  :)

Just because we've seen this it doesn't suddenly rule out everything that has happened before to persuade us that there is infact a SE. Even if it's just effects, I still believe there will be one, John wardley said it himself. Every coaster with the 'sw' code name has had some sort of secret weapon and I don't believe this will break the trend, I just think it'll twist it and the secret element will be something other than track. Obliviously I don't know this, just a guess :D
Smilers secret weapon is the fact it has 14 inversions. The most of any roller coaster in the whole world. It's as simple as that.
Until next year when someone makes a 15 inversions coaster and the smiler becomes another Eurofighter?  That just doesn't seem like Alton's style.
Perhaps that's all they're going for
Alton will not lose the record next year. I doubt they would for many years. Look how long Collosus held its crown. Quite a long time really.

I'm just going off what we have seen. Which is proper evidence that track wise there is NO gimmick. And I'm happy there isn't. The only shred of hope of there being a worlds first element or gimmick would be some sort of effect inside the station. Which is still a minute possibility.

Your pint still stands? You better drink it then!

I'm not having a go. Quite the opposite. Just pointing out that Altons touch is obviously all over this ride. Just look at the damn thing. It's frickin insane.

A gimmicky trick track does not equal success and make a great coaster.

What does make a good coaster is a full and fun layout with variety and good pacing. Spots of airtime and intensity. Visually inviting theming elements and music. A good back story to suck you in and make you feel involved. The Smiler has all of these and is a world record breaker to boot!

On that page...
""Alton Towers will open its new £18 million ride called The Smiler next Sunday. With 14 loops to the previous record of 10, it is the largest roller-coaster ever built.

Well they've got the date wrong...

Have just noticed that now the writing is the wrong way around   That doesn't seem to make sense, unless the camera was recording in mirror mode (but then why is the writing the right way around)

This ride is messing with my mind and im no where near it!
lolwut? Your messing with my mind, at the start in the station the video was actually the right way around, so its now the wrong way around, but the actual pov is all the correct way.

As much as I would love to see a pre show before the first lift with 3d projection mapping I can almost assure you there won't be, all I can imagine is they have brakes before both lift hills so they can get the timing for th duelling right so if a train leaves the station too late the other train can wait bait longer by the 2nd lift hill.
It's getting quite boring with people keep bringing up these ideas, this is the construction topic not speculation
Rant over

Just watched the POV and it just makes me even more excited!! It looks amazing, 2nd world element or not! Hurtling around 14 inversions on the most densest rollercoaster in the world with very very close near misses is enough to put a smile on anyones face :) Dare i say it... will nemesis lose its king title after 19 years? I think so!!

I did notice there seems to be some fixings above the opening in the station, possibly for shutters that would open and close to let the indoor section stay dark? Im really looking forward to seeing what they are going to do with the indoor area theming wise etc...
LETS GET CORRECTED!!
