As many suspected from the teasers (and some not so subtle Monorail advertising), the Big Six Challenge has now been confirmed as returning for 2017 on TowersTimes Facebook.

This year it looks as though guests will complete the challenge through the main Resort app, rather than the dedicated Big Six app, and then have the more flexible prize of being able to return for free on a weekday between 6th and 30th September.

There's also a hidden 7th check-in point in Mutiny Bay for SW8...
Plus, a brand new ground breaking development is currently underway in Mutiny Bay, can you find our hidden 7th check-in point? There is a prize if you find it!

Beat the Big 6 challenge before it becomes the Big 7 in 2018.

I've just picked up on that to. I didn't see this but just posted it in the SW8 forum!

Looking forward to competing this!

Is it me or does anyone else get the 'Whoops something went wrong' page?

Maybe because it wasn't supposed to be happening until the 4th? I imagine everything in the park is already set up today and people were trying to compete while the Challenge hasn't even started. Just my guess though.

No, it's not quite clear what's happening with it...

I don't know who else uses the Android App but my Alton Towers App got a 53mb update yesterday. A few things mentioned in the change log but nothing about the Big Six Challenge though. Judging from the size I would say it's probably preparing for the Big Six Challenge. Far too large for the new 'leaderboard' and 'more accurate ride times' in my opinion.

The challenge has now launched with an app update having been rolled out today!

Does anyone have any pictures of the stations at the ride exits?

I assume you have to be at the resort for the Big Six tab to appear in the app? Just downloaded it and nothing suggests the Challenge is there from here.

I'm in Leeds at the moment and have access to the Big Six section. That's strange...

The Big Six Challenge page has been reactivated on the Resort's website (although references to the secret SW8 check-in point have been removed), so an announcement appears to be imminent.

EDIT: It has now been officially announced on Towers' social media.

A YouTube video for it is up. It surprised me that the video said 13's secret element- the free fall drop. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0Dy-UZtlb2Q

Leek Signs have posted a few photos of some of the Big Six Challenge check-in points on their Facebook, with them formatted similarly to 2015.

Literally anyone could walk up to that sign and say they've done it. But then again, they can't really put it in a ride exit path or anything because it would get too congested. Can't win.

Even someone 1m tall who can't ride any of the big 6 can complete it!

Given the ride is now 7 years old it's not really a secret element anymore :-k
