Indeed, they wouldn't let the public near it with a bargepole if it was even slightly unsafe, the amount of H+S regs these days would make sure of that. Is it not possible that the f*ns are currently deployed due to a requirement for power and an active system to be retracted? I.e. this is their "default" state in case of power failure etc.

Went today and the smiler was closed. Again. Its really embarrassing for them and there letting a huge amount of people down. And yes, you can say "oh yeah, at least there fixing it"- it shouldn't be like that in the first place, they should've thought twice about rushing the opening because, as far as I'm concerned, these incidents are going to keep happening and not only will every theming element be nonexistent in a few years, this will be a rough, painful ride. And getting two rides of oblivion, nemesis, air and Rita and getting on 13, spinball, the rapids, flume, sub terra, ripsaw and the blade more than makes up for missing out on this shambles.
