Not in the slightest, the bolt that fell off I think was caused by the fact that it went from incredibly hot (making the metal expand) to warm (metal then contracts) the track contracted faster and splitting the bolt, thats what I think happened, and breakdowns happen, yes it's more regular then other rides, but remember TH13TEEN and Air when they opened, breakdowns more then they ever do now, It's not dangerous at all :moj
Indeed, they wouldn't let the public near it with a bargepole if it was even slightly unsafe, the amount of H+S regs these days would make sure of that. Just imagine if it came out it was unsafe, the amount of people that have ridden it who would turn round and try and sue...
I'm Hilarious.

If that's the bunny hop after the sea-serpent could they not be playing around with having them on to reduce the jolt coming out of the cobra roll?

I'm probably way off but could that be something they'd consider?

I have been on holiday for two weeks and seems like the smiler has too. I'm sorry but it's a huge embarrassment to alton towers especially as they are still advertising it.

Is it not possible that the f*ns are currently deployed due to a requirement for power and an active system to be retracted? I.e. this is their "default" state in case of power failure etc.

I don't think we should read too much into it tbh, not at this stage anyway :)
Smile. Always. :moj

Went today and the smiler was closed. Again. Its really embarrassing for them and there letting a huge amount of people down. And yes, you can say "oh yeah, at least there fixing it"- it shouldn't be like that in the first place, they should've thought twice about rushing the opening because, as far as I'm concerned, these incidents are going to keep happening and not only will every theming element be nonexistent in a few years, this will be a rough, painful ride. And getting two rides of oblivion, nemesis, air and Rita and getting on 13, spinball, the rapids, flume, sub terra, ripsaw and the blade more than makes up for missing out on this shambles.

They are retractable but i've never seen a train go over with them down. They always drop, then pop back up at last minute as the train approaches.

Any news today?

Is there still a website that gives (reliable) ride times?

Good omen.. The Smiler closed banner on the website has disappeared at some point this afternoon. Lets hope that they are opening it for tomorrow.
