When I sat on the second row, there seems to be 2 mounting brackets, one between the 1st and second seat, one between the 3rd and 4th seats across the row in front. My guess is that eventually they will do an on ride video, just when it's popularity starts to die down
I can also confirm the jolt on the last of the staffs knot near the shop, savage, made me actually go "ARGH" but the rest is surprisingly smoooooth
And the wires may be to do with the airtime trims, the trims adjust themselves depending on the speed of the car on the inversions before... It's impressive to watch them adjust but it does effect the ride you can see the cars slow down.

Coaster Force have posted a great off-ride video today. It's the first one where you can properly hear the ride's great 'soft' roar, and the screeching seems to have been completely worn out of the wheels now!

You lot are complaining about roughness but Colosus is old and a bit joulty but that's a part of the experience! Colosus is one of Thorpe Parks best rides so a lit roughness doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of it

I'm so scared that by time I get to go to AT and ride The Smiler later this year all the effects will not work, the foliage will be overgrown and it will already look dated. Someone reassure me

Nah - I'd love to see it shiny and new but I think it will look great once everything has bedded in, I'm sure they'll be on the ball this season, with features and theming. You never know, there may be little bits still to finish...?

I still wonder what is that little grate thing is that looks like a CPU's cooling unit/fins by the wheels of the cars? It has a wire attatched to it so is this a transmitter of some kind?
you mentioned the word fins lol and thanks for all your comments back I was think of getting a video I see the one on swarm when we went there other wee and that footage we see for a few seconds was ace what a shame only getting a photo then
One more thing I'm thinking of going next Friday because I can get cheap tickets of eBay do anyone think it will be quite we went on the 20th and it was great and quite but smiler now open any advice?
Was on park today... and to keep it brief... my god, she's a beauty.
Totally messes with your mind, leaves you feeling completely spun out and at the same point in both rides today, went a little insane with uncontrollable giggling... Absolutely loved this ride. It's smooth, intense yet in no way vomitous (unlike colossus)..
Queue times all day were NEVER below 100 minutes and opened to a 3 hour queue at 10am, but the staff have mastered queue management with the temporary queue system (something that I was a little dubious about at first)... And when there's a massive busy day in the future, I struggle to see how the built queue-lines will last as a permanent solution without building extensions as it seems to only hold about an hour and half worth of people
I'm not aware of there being any breakdowns that lasted any length of time and certainly none that closed the ride. In fact, she seemed to run perfectly all day with minimum fuss and minimum delays (a few "downloads" needed, but nothing more than that)... Completely shocked given it's a new coaster in a Merlin park (remembering Saw's opening weekend, Swarm's issues, Air's (as Tausaud's of course) and Stealth...)
The duelling is cool when it actually happens, but that's hit and miss. It's like there's nothing regulating the spaces in real time, rather than a pre-programmed sequence of fixed time events instead.
As a question.. Do they actually use laughing gas (or a form of) as the giggler? Coz it certainly seemed like it on the ride today.. I quite literally lost my sh...t on the floor at one point.. uncontrollable laughter.
I'm not really sure where to put this but - couple of thoughts:
I realised(lol) that The Smiler is kind of related to Nemesis and also Nemesis Sub Terra. Both the Smiler and Nemesis have a large creature in the centre with a lot of legs.
This comes from a dream I had, but you can see The Smiler as a therapy you go through after being traumatized by the Nemesis baby, (although something does feel nicer about considering them to be independant realities).
Lastly this is a (para)phase from the user Delta79 (I hope she doesn't mind) that she saw in also in a dream which I think sums up a good themepark in general and is relevant right now:- "Alton Towers - Triumphing where the Health Service has failed"
I think its so true, that the mental health sector ought to prescribe Alton Towers/The Smiler for people who have chronic depression. Imagine that; You turn up at the exit and a the ride staff are like "You got a prescription mate? Ok- jog right on!"
By my (very) rough calculations, the Smiler is getting about 700 people per hour. We were ride photo 3400 and there's 2 to a photo. We were one of the last on yesterday at 8pm...
So... 3400 x 2 = 6800 total riders. Divided by the 10 hours it was operational for = 680 per hour average. Allowing for the 200 or so behind us at queue close and rounded up to allow for miscalculations = 700 per hour.
Didn't John Wardley famously say in a documentary that he only deals with ride manufacturers that can deliver 1000+?

I'm visiting on the 5th June with my friends and we can spend as long as we like in the park because we're getting dropped off and picked up by parents (luckily). However, we were hoping to sprint to The Smiler at 9am as well as enter the queue again when it closes at 6pm. What time should we get picked up considering this?
I'll try and take some pictures of the queue and, obviously, the ride in return for this information. Thank you!

He also stated in the linked documentary on th13teen's opening day that roller coasters don't normally reach their optimum capacity for a few months
