UK Park Attendance in 2011
Alton Towers - 9th Europe - 1st UK - 2.6 million visitors (Down from 2.75 million)
LEGOLAND Windsor - 10th Europe - 2nd UK - 1.9 million visitors (No change)
THORPE PARK - - 11th Europe - 3rd UK - 1.9 million visitors (Up from 1.85 million)
All other UK park attendance below 1.35 million visitors

Ah I love this little document, it always makes an interesting read! IOA had a fantastic year it seems with 29% growth, very impressive.

I'm not too surprised to see that Towers gate numbers fell with no new attractions last year; it will be even more interesting to see next years (technically this years but in next years report) for both Towers and Thorpe.

Also for me it's a shame to see that the only park in the US top 20 that had a decline in attendances was BGW. Hopefully the addition of Verbolten this year will rectify that!

I am sure that Towers was reported (on here) to have had around 3m visitors in 2010 - do they just underestimate the figures?

The figures quoted in this report are at odds with what Alton Towers themselves revealed in the planning documents for SW7, but then those planning documents also challenge the figure that Ian Crabbe stated in the media for 2010's attendance.

The SW7 traffic report stated it was 3m in 2010 and 2.7m in 2011, but perhaps that relates to the entire resort and the TEA/Crabbe figures relate to the theme park itself only - who knows.

This report is a waste of time, they regularly report different figures than what the parks official release (such as the figures that DLP release in their financial reports)

There is no legal requirement for parks to release legit numbers for this report so they are often underestimated and fudged together.

As Chris says probably very little accuracy, as a planning document is legal its probably much more accurate

Even with Sub Terra this year I would still expect to see a continued drop in Alton's gate figures.

Now what i'd really LOVE to see would be the hotel occupancy figures!!!

The thing is, it depends what the parks are talking about. If they want a nice look at us we are amazing effect, they will round 2.6m to 3m to make it sound good. If they want to say hey look, our guest numbers are falling and its all the governments fault, they will state the lowest number saying 2.6m as "around" 2.5m. That's where the inaccuracies normally come from.

Quite pleased to 8 Disney Parks in the top 10 Very surprised to see the albeit rubbish park WDS have higher attendance than EP, almost feels unjust if it wasn't for ToT.

It's because a Disney park could open with nothing more than a gleaming, polished pile of excrement and still get multi millions in visitors. The name alone guarantees a certain number of visitors, hence Walt Disney Studios getting more than say, Europa-Park.

True, but its not quite that simple, as you'd expect a resort with multiple parks in walking distance (TDS and TDL) would have similar attendance figures because they're right next to each other...

To EP's credit though, WDS *just* pips it.
