Go!Go!Go! show set for Cloud Cuckoo Land Theatre in 2011

From TT News:
A recent press release from Alton Towers has detailed a new show set for the Cloud Cuckoo Land theatre in 2011 - a colourful, energtic and cheery stage show entitled the Go!Go!Go! Show, fresh from its debut and supportive reviews in the London West End in 2010.

The show appears to be targetted to the young audience expected in Cloud Cuckoo Land, featuring 5 'pop singers' and some oddly named characters such as Fluffalope and Mr Baffled and is set to bring some high energy, interactive dance and song to the theatre - with a medley of songs composed by names behind famous acts such as Steps.

Sadly it appears that this addition will mean a goodbye to some of Alton's famous and popular stage show characters, such as Sir Algenon (and his attic adventures, as previously featured in Cloud Cuckoo Land Theatre), and the rather cute and lovable purple dragon, Snorlix.

With the show seemingly 'bought off the shelf' from its debut in the London West End, it also sadly may mean another demise of the ever talented resort entertainments team who have worked hard to write, produce and star in the shows since Cloud Cuckoo Land Theatre's revival in 2009, although it is unsure yet if they will play any part in the new show.

With this announcement and the addition of the Sharbait Reef Spider Crabs for 2011, Alton Towers appears to be pulling a few little suprises out of their sleeves for the new season, but the question still looms - with the lack of a major or even minor attraction - if it will be enough to entice people back for the 2011 season.

You can get a taste of the show from the Go!Go!Go!'s website at http://www.gogogo.tv
I've only had the website open briefly to research them a little, and the music is already driving me mad :-( lol

Heh... replacing a "brand" that they worked hard to really build up for the resort (Algenon and Snorlax) with another shipped in off-the-shelf IP. Entirely the wrong direction for the resort. :(

We can be expecting this kind of thing:

The loss of a Snorlix related show is very disappointing, but I presume that Alton feel that after a few years the format is starting to become a bit tired.

I don't think this will be as bad as some will think, it should be a pretty fun show and I will reserve judgement until I see it. Their music is very catchy!

Can't say I'm liking this news at all, I don't see what was wrong with having a show bases around Snorlix and Algenon etc. They were really Alton Towers, this isn't, it just seems cheap and a bit tacky. Snorlix fitting so well with Cloud Cuckoo Land, and even though last years show was nothing special, it will always be better suited to Towers for me than an "external" show will ever be.

I just hope a Cloud Cuckoo Land themed show returns in 2012, looks like it's going to be all about the Pirates of Mutiny Bay for me this season.

It's only catchy for people who would consider Lady GaGa to be the height of avant-garde.

I'm a certified faggot and even I think that music is far too gay!

Sorry, er, yes, I mean, I can't wait to see the show for a full review for TowersTimes, naturally! Image

Its generic pop music for kids though, which should go down pretty well. I personally don't think its very good. ;)

And Go!Go!Go! are from the creators of Steps (apparently), so of course thats the style they will have. :P

So, this is like a new Steps or S Club or something? Haha.
I'm sure it will go down very well with the children, who it is aimed at. (and I am sure TTF will see the show numerous times)!
2011 was going to be a family year, right? And now there is another new family addition to 2011, which is what people have been wanting since the news of no Shrek. :D
I'll be over at Forbidden Valley, if anyone wants to find me!

I agree that it will probably be good for kids and families, but I just prefer the idea of Towers doing their own shows, they are more quirky than other shows and have some really good characters in them. It looks like the only on park show this year for the Towers Ents team is going to be the pirate show which is a bit of a shame.

The problem is that as much as enthusiasts liked towers having their own show without an IP, alot of the time they were preforming to a half empty theatre. Milkshake came along and pretty much packed the place out. Sadly sometimes IPs do have a place.

I've just been thinking, I don't really know much about this GoGoGo thing, but I assume that they have the same cast for all their shows. If that is the case, then they obviously won't be performing all week every week throughout the season, otherwise they would have no time off for about 7 months. So I guess that means either a Towers show when this one is not on, or the more likely option of there being no show in the CCL theatre some days. Time will tell I guess.

Kicking off big time about this. I hate you a little bit right now Towers. Why oh why would you do this?! It's meant to be a place of escapism and away from real life. Don't clash the two worlds together. Sonic shouldn't be here and neither should this new show.

Snorlix was a perfect mascot for the park and I pray she remains a strong and key character to the resort. This new show is too disney channel-esque. Something Alton should never be. You've always had a less tacky class to your shows compared to other parks and resorts - yet this seems to be spiralling to a more tacky type of show.

Disappointed is an understatement. There has been no imagination, no thought, no creativity. Just a bought, ready made, in-personalised show for you to chuck at us in an area of the resort that is already so unique and alton towers character full that it will not benefit from these outsider characters coming in. This would be better suited in Story Book land...not there.

On a minor note though and one good thing...cast look HOT. ;)

Because you see a group of 5 brightly dressed people singing songs joined by a strange professor character in an effort to find a monster that eats socks everyday do you?

Yes, but this is a clash of IP with a place that made an effort to get away from a brand within a brand - but they're back to square one. And you can find many brightly dressed people around and about. Disney, Cruise Ships, Ke$ha's "Take It Off" video, Stores, General Public...it's everywhere.

After slight hesitation im thinking the towers have done the right thing... for their profits. Which is exactly what they should be about, they're a business.

However, from the point of view that Alton have always done their best to produce homegrown shows and attractions I think it's a step backwards. I have seen the Snorlix show and I thought it was good for kids, but not great. What Alton should have done is contract a professional to aid and direct the current show in a new direction. Of course this takes time and the outcome is not certain, it's so much easier to sign a contract for an outsider.

Sir Algenon and the very well designed Snorlix were one of many marks of originality that are now slowing fading.

This show doesn't affect my visit at Alton Towers at all, so you could say, I have no opinion on the matter.

Although im going to miss Snorlix and myself  and the resorts own shows this looks like a high quality show and the music isn't half bad, like some of us have said yes we'd prefer the resort to create their own shows but we'll just have to wait and see what it's like and then i'll make a decision.

I don't think Snorlix and Algenon will leave the resort completely, I still think Snorlix will be seen around Cloud Cuckoo Land and Algenon is still accosiated with the wonderful Alton Towers Hotel.

Just to add, there will be a new show in the Mutiny Bay Courtyard Tavern aswell.
