Sorry if I'm sounding like a miserable :censored: here, but what's the point of holding any gigs at Alton? (And yes, I know it was successful last year). To me, that's like saying they should hold a football match in a Center Parcs swimming pool.
It's a good concert venue in its own right. Unlike football matches, a concert doesn't need many special requirements, as the artists will bring all the stage equipment. All that is needed is a huge open space, which Alton provides (and why football stadiums are often used), plenty of parking space, with Alton have, and a good transport infrastructure to get people there, which Alton... err, anyway. :P

Also Towers is a great venue as people can make a whole day out before the concert.

:P Some people here are so negative.

The park held 2 concerts at the park last year, both of which were a success. It's clear that it's something they wanted to continue - afterall, they held many events like this in the 80's and 90's.

As for the choice of bands - they did have Sum 41 play under Nemesis in 2002 as part of the launch of air and the live Broadcast Radio 1 had with Mark and Lard ... However, those hoping for the likes of SOAD and Slipknot need to think again - This is a family park, the resort need to target their audience of young teens.

JLS may not be everyones favourite band, however, they're the UKs biggest boy band right now and would bring in a lot of visitors.

But if Alton did have different stages for different genres of music, I doubt the locals would be pleased.

I think if Alton did something too big it would alienate a lot of people-rather than actually acheiving it's goal most would probably think "theres a load of toot on and only one act I'd like to see" and would rather pay for a gig/ or go to an established festival. I think something on the scale of Pink every so often is fine, I didn't attend myself it I hear it was a succes. The way I look at it is even if an act plays at Alton Towers that I don't like myself so long as the event is a success which raises the profile of the park and brings a bit of extra revenue- that can only be a good thing, right?

Alton Towers is an incredible location for a live concert. The setting over the lake/Towers is memorable to say the least and I reckon based on a list of normal arena's, theatres and Alton Towers - which one do you reckon the biggest draw would be for the public? An amazig day out followed by an amazing gig.

I made a post on friday that was slightly negative for the 2011 season but I have changed my mind over the weekend.

I really don't care about the concerts but they are good for the park, and I'd like to see them happen more often.
The lack of major attraction is still a bit disappointing but there are many good things to come in the next few years that will make up for a poor year in 2011.

Actually going away from the Music Festival discussion, the 2011 Fast-Tracks have been released :-

Scream - £10.00
Rita - £5.00
Dark Forest - £10.00 (TH13TEEN + RITA)
Adventurer - £6.00
Ultimate - £42.00
Platinum - £84.00

Not too different, but does this mean you have to buy the Rita fastrack, to get a TH13TEEN Fasttrack? Won't they sell them singly?
Blaze

Yep, looks like you have to buy Thirteen with Rita.

They will sell them as singles on the day. Fastrack One Shot is available on all rides pretty much, including Sonic Spinball.

I'm surprised they're still advertising Rita fastrack so prominently. Presumably they can't sell as many fastrack for Rita fastrack as for Th13teen due to Rita's lower capacity, so every Rita fastrack they sell means one less Th13teen fastrack sold.

Hang on, why am I posting this when it's going to lengthen my queuing time? Alton Towers, if you're reading this and like the idea, please send a voucher for a free annual pass, thx

Just a thought could they not have made the ice tent sound proof some how and brought back the ice show? I know it was in a bad state but surley new or even repaired ice show would bring in revenue and customers afterall it would be another show!

That's what I was thinking.

Assuming that before the deal with Dreamworks was fully sorted they started preparing the Ice Tent for the 4D cinema then the tent should be empty, yes? I'm sure it wouldn't take that long to get it sound proofed and get lighting rigs, the stage, ice, staff etc... All of this would probably be within budget for 2011, even possibly cheaper. Not much marketing would be needed early either as it's hardly a massive investment that needs a lot of coverage, just some advertisement on resort during half term, shown on one or two resort adverts and bingo, new show for 2011.

The minute Adam posted that Ice Age could be at Alton in some form for 2011 I immediately thought "Show in ice tent". Although it sounds to good to be true, I'm a big ice show fan and have been wanting Alton to give it a return for years.

Iron Maiden gig at Alton Towers... would just make my head implode with pleasure... thought I'll express that!

The only time a festival would work is if it was held at the end of the year, instead or during the fireworks, it's not because of the mess involved. Infact if you look at sonisphere all the litter was cleaned up in a couple of days after. It's that the grass goes a horrible shade of brown after all the trampling. Sonisphere had an excellent system beer cost a little extra but you get a small amount of money back for every cup you return. this meant once people ran out of money they would crawl through the mosh pits with massive towers of cups in order to get a free beer!

Also having a pop festival means that more people are gonna get wasted then at a metal festival. Metal fans tend to give more of a damn towards music and want to remember the gig! You get a lot more wasted people at Reading than at Sonisphere...

Therefore I am expecting an amazing fireworks display by rammstein, a giant eddie and amazing set from Iron Maiden, a moshpit full of red/black war painted vikings thanks to Tuisas and some melodic folk death metal from Eluveitie! It's the logical thing to do Alton! :D
Blaze

When you put it like that, it's pretty hard to see a flaw and a reason for them to say no.

Alton, you know what to do! :P

From the sounds of it, I think we will be seeing an Ice Age show of some kind. I know towards the end of last year the Entertainments team were rehearsing a new show, seemed to be from the Ice Show Tent direction, so I don't know if that was for the original plans or not. But I just remembered it.

But I do have it on pretty good authority that we will be seeing Ice Age this year somewhere. I just hope it's not that thing from Chessington...

Putting 2 and 2 together, surely we'll be getting an Ice Age themed ice show...?

Possibly...

It was described to me more of an "area". But I guess we'll see! :) Whatever it is, I think they need to advertise the crap out of it!

What ever they do they really do need to advertise it, espeically with Blackpool opening Nickelodeon land and Drayton opening the new Ben Ten ride, both of which have started to advertise.
