Hi:) I'm also quite new to the forum so I thought what do you think is going to be changed/revamped/happening in the Alton Towers Waterpark throughout it's closed period?

I think it closes for this maintenance period every year, so nothing too exciting I'm afraid.
I hope they don't tone down the bucket on the grounds of 'elf & safety, as I fear they might. It's really quite impressive the amount of water that thing chucks down.

Haven't they already toned down on the giant bucket?
Because I remember the first bucket seemed much bigger than the new one

The bucket itself has not changed. But last year they added ridges to the roof it pours on to, slowing down the torrent. Given that I once witnessed someone have their bikini ripped off by it, you can hardly blame them. :P

Really? Well it's a shame they've slowed the water, damn Alton ruining all our fun! :P

I think it's great news that the Water Park is closed for a few weeks. When I visited in December, I was somewhat shocked at the state of some of the park. The base of the pool was cracked and many features weren't working. It all just looked a bit tired - but that's what happens when you have a year-round water park!
I still hope that some day, before it gets to its 10th birthdat, that they'll bother investing in a new attraction. Can all hope!

As already mentioned, it is just annual maintenance. January is most likely to be on of the quietest months of the year in terms of occupancy rates, so is an ideal time to do it. Any retheme would take a lot longer than a few weeks.

It really wouldn't make any sense if it was a lego theme, save it for legoland but I hope they fix the features give some of it a lick of paint :P

Lego water park!? Eugh.
Sort of related, what are the rules on goggles and T-shirts at the Waterpark? Haven't been for so long.
There aren't really any rules when it comes to T-Shirts and goggles. Both are allowed in the water park, and you don't have to bother with wearing both either. It's up to you really. I think it's just wearing full clothes that you can't go in with on.

That's what everybody thought at the time. Who was it who stated the possibility again, somebody from Merlin in an interview? I can't remember. It probably was never actually going to happen thankfully. It really wouldn't make any sense if it was a lego theme

Only exception is that (depending how on-the-ball the staff are) guests are asked to remove goggles on the flumes, and definitely on the Master Blaster.

A few things that their doing while closed:
- All of the pool floors and walls are being re-surfaced.
- New turnstyles are being installed at the entrance to the Changing Rooms which will mean the removal of the wristband system for 2011.
- More blue soft flooring being installed around Wacky Water Works.
- New up lighting on all trees within the waterpark.
- A possible new queue system on the splash downs.
- Everything being painted.
- Minor Changing Room improvements and slight diversion of foot traffic.
There's a few other things, but I don't remember at the moment. Nothing too exciting, as yet again they can't be arsed to put in anything new...

"It would be spiteful to put Jellyfish in a trifle..."
Good there's a few improvements. Still as I have mentioned previously, frustrating the price keeps rising but they never add anything new...
The Water Park is now £15.00 entry! That means the price has gone up somewhere in the region of 7%.
