If you look on the left as you enter the hotel you can see Emperor down on the ground floor. Well the doors anyway.

Does it really matter if a hotel can be seen above the trees? :?

I think that the planning application for the hotel will have been subjected to the same restrictions as when rides are built at Alton. I think this is a positive restriction though, as it leads to much more interesting hotel designs rather than the standard "ground-floor entrance" layout in most hotels.

It was open last night for Valentine's.

One of the waitresses in there said that for a starter and a main is around £25 - £30!

Considering you'd pay around £15 for a semi decent steak at TGI Fridays, I'd expect to pay at least £20.00 in a hotel anyway. I paid £25 for steak in a 4 star hotel in Bedford last year!

Anybody expecting Weatherspoons style steak and a pint a fiver is going to be disappointed!

Steak at Secret Garden Restaurant is around £16. I would assume the grills at the new restaurant will range from just under that, perhaps £13 or so up to £25 for a huge, special steak.

Pricing sounds pretty much spot on then.

I had a valentines meal this year at a new indians (offering a discounted rate I think) which cost us £47, last year at an italians about £60. Prices have have been the same or higher for steak type meals at the more typical english places. So for a hotel restuarant at £25 each (£50-£60 for us) isn't bad at all.

But Alton isn't your typical hotel, that can charge £25 for a steak as the country crawls out of recession and tries to attract families. The top end product may well be above £20 but if the entire menu is above that then it'll be a real shame. As I said, steak at SGR is £16.

Sorry, what I mean't was the overall price for a typical meal (based on 2 people as I often do). £25 might be a bit steep for a steak on its own.

He said main meal and starter in the first post. Unless it was like fillet steak, I wouldn't expect it to be £25 by itself. At least some chips or something..

I'm a vegetarian so I won't be sampling the steak on offer but it is a good idea. They seem to be focusing on the hotel food and drink outlets a lot right now. Isn't Splash Landings getting something new?

Splash got a new coffee shop called :Coffee Shack. Located opposite Flambo's next to the arcade.

The steak house is now open and it looks like a really nice place to eat. I was a bit dubious having not been in the emperors suite and the fact that it was basically a conference room but I was not disappointed.
it seems quite up market and when inside it was very quiet even though there were about 10 family's eating. I gues the soft furnishings absorb a lot of sound anyway but we did feel like we should be whispering.

I didn't have a meal so can't comment on the quality of the steak but I didn't hear any negative comments about the food from the others so I assume it was all fine. Apparently the steaks are superior to the the ones in the secret garden.

Prices seemed to be around £18 for a steak. :)
