I think calling it coaster porn is a joke that is related to common everyday conversations (my friend keeps chicken, anything she has about chickens i refer to as chicken porn). In a way its a nod to the community that we are part of their concern.

I doubt Morwenna or the team think we will utilise such a service (i doubt more that it will actually happen) but its a nod or wink to us in a funny way that also gets "Alton Towers Resort" into the print media.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the experience

I read about 'Alton XXX' in the newspaper yesterday. I thought it was dreadful, yet hilarious - and it got into the paper, which means it's served it's purpose. I can only imagine some of the horrible ads that could be made, 'Sit back, it's night time' or 'Alton XXX, only £Th13teen a night'.

Well I spent a good ten minutes searching the pay-per-view options in the ATH on Wednesday night, and I only saw boring, 'family friendly' films.

Once again, Morewonga is LYING.

If they say there banning something then ban it. Sure it would mean that we can’t wear Speedos or disrupt other guests at the hotel but at the minute I can’t trust anything the park announces. It all turns out to be bogus.

Wow. Massive fail aside, this is just the sort of thing I like to see from the marketing department. Great to see some really positive promotion of the resort and its image for a change.

Good PR releases for once. Nice to see.

What's the catch? There must be something REALLY nasty coming soon

Simon Cowell and Katie Price are UK's 'scariest' celebrities

Katie Price, X Factor supremo Simon Cowell and bee-hived chanteuse Amy Winehouse top the list of the UK's scariest celebrities - and the terrible trio have inspired three unique scarecrows as a result.

In a poll commissioned by Alton Towers' Scarefest, Lady Gaga and Ozzy Osbourne also made the top five fear-inducing famous types.

Cowell garnered more than a quarter of votes in the survey, with Mark Ronson's on-off mate not coming far behind.

The music mogul's straw-based doppelganger - all six feet of it - features his trademark hairy chest, high trousers and flat hair.

'Our scarecrows are already a popular feature of Scarefest, but this year we thought we’d really push the boat out and add an extra element for our guests,' said the resort's Morwenna Angove.

Anyone keen to catch a glimpse of the three celebs' scarecrow homages should make their way to the resort's annual Scarefest Halloween, happening this year from October 16-31.

The UK's top 5 scariest celebrities:
1. Simon Cowell: 26%
2. Amy Winehouse: 23%
3. Katie Price: 20%
4. Lady Gaga: 15%
5. Ozzy Osbourne: 14%

Last year IOA or one of the other Universal parks had a dead Michael Jackson dummy, so this is no big deal, it's actually rather funny (providing none of them die before it, then it won't be funny or clever). Shoukd zombie them up a bit, though :)

After watching the "Alton towers magic factory" video not that long ago , I wondered why the marketing company didn't adopt that oblivion idea they had. Sure , the way they put it really did suck , but I can picture the same base in my head which would really make it look good.

Quick zoom up of siren
Harrier door opens , guy in straight jacket lying down near , slowly slides towards due to gravity
every few seconds the image "fuzzes" and an overlay of oblivion appears. The guy is about to fall , jacket tugs on edge , another image fuzz , then he drops and then it permanently switches to oblivion.
Would be pretty scary and intense.

Are you talking about a new idea for a promotional video? I don't quite get your post.

Oblivion Marketing

The Magic Factory documentary includes this footage from the marketing department, showing the pitch for the intended Oblivion promotional ad to the test audience. I strongly disagree that "the way they put it really did suck", it would have been a very good advert.

Thankfully Thirteen's ad got away with being only loosely based on the ride. It think it is better that way.

Here is the re-worked ad that was shot and broadcast.

It is also worth watching more of that documentary to see the effort that was put into the park back then...

Alton Towers fish on Brussels sprouts diet

Aquarium staff at Alton Towers are feeding fish on Brussels sprouts. They say they haven't had problems with flatulence yet.

I thought the new head of marketing had been done with PR stunts. :(

I don't mind though, it's the type of quirky one I quite enjoy.. :)

...and the winner for the shortest marketing stunt ever goes to... :P

I don't care about any of the stunts anymore tbh. I will miss: "Morwenna Angove, Sales and Marketing Director at the Alton Towers Resort said..." the most. :( Morwenna has done a fantastic job the last few years at Alton, and it's certain that the Morwenna years won't be forgotten. Good luck to whoever has replaced her, but one can ever beat the almighty Morwenna Angove.

It seems a strange story, espiecally as the park is now closed so the public cant go and see the fish and their sprouts anyway.

It's a bit of xmas themed jokery, harmless, light hearted fun. I like it :)

Here's the full press stunt, along with pictures.
The Alton Towers Resort plans to minimise Brussel sprout waste this Christmas after discovering that the fish in the Resort’s aquarium, Sharkbait Reef by SEA LIFE, have a surprising ‘penchant’ for the unpopular British veg.

The Christmas must have is often cited as one of the UK’s least favourite foods and large quantities of the vegetable are thrown away each day after being left on the plate. To minimise waste, bosses at the Resort are now recycling any left-over sprouts served in the hotel this December during the Santa Sleepover and Santa lunch events by using them to feed the fish at the park’s aquarium, Sharkbait Reef by SEA LIFE.

Andrea Fox, Head of Consumer Marketing at the Alton Towers Resort, said: “We’re always looking at ways to cut down waste at the Alton Towers Resort. It is currently unknown as to whether including Brussel sprouts into the fishes’ diet will cause flatulence or unwanted smells in the aquarium. However, the fish love the new addition to their diet and we are monitoring the situation.”
Sharkbait Reef is open over the winter for hotel guests, along with a few other attractions. :)
