Exactly Phill!

My thoughts -

A) If this were a B&M that conforms to the style they have always followed, it will be much too loud on the eyes and ears! It just wouldn't fit at all.

B) If this is a total rethink of the B&M design and (according to leroy) there is no outside collaboration, I have no reason to be excited about the ride in the slightest. The amazing formula B&M are working with at the moment isn't a totally original one, and is adapted from the first Intamin/Gianvola stand-up designs. When they saw how well this mix of train and track worked, they branched off and begun to manufacture this type of ride. It was originally Intamins design, and they worked together with Intamin to get it right before going off on their own.

If Leroy is saying they're leaving the style that they 'borrowed' from Intamin to start using a totally new design without any outside help, we could be in for a pretty poor ride, they can't leave the track design that founded their company, it's just wrong...and it's business suicide!

Let me elaborate:

I would be very happy if this coaster is a World's First B&M because all their creations at Alton have been amazing and yes, they have been loyal to not build anywhere else but.. I just wanted Alton to not stick with one manufacturer for their SW's.

B&M's are very loud and the noises are a big complaint with the locals. To have all these amazing features, themeing and WF coaster seems very out of reach. I don't want this coaster to be rushed and over budget like AIR.

I don't have anything against Leroy apart from most of his posts and he might be an amazing person if I ever met him. I'll give him another chance. :)

If he is right - I'll be the first to give him a well-deserved public apology so everyone can see.

The box track design is in no way responsible for B&M's smooth quality, shockwave at drayton manor is proof of that, its a rough bugger with a box spine style.

So i dont see why a new track design could not still have B&M's classic quality
I don't post on this forum very regularly, but I do read it, and this topic has been very very interesting. However, I fail to understand why some poeple are adament it won't be a thrill ride if it is not a B&M.

Personally, looking at the plans with the theme they plan to implement, I don't feel a B&M would fit the bill at all. It would be too chunky, too loud and too dominant in the theme to fit in. To create the tension the ride seems to want to create, it needs a track that isnt going to hanginging over your head, directing you where to go next; but needs a track that is essentially invisible while your travelling through the woods. That to me would create the greatest thrill - Suspense of the unknown!
Can i say that yet again people are missing the point.
If it is a Beemer then they have a totally new concept which includes both track and train.
I agree with the too chunky and dominant part if it was a run of the mill B&M coaster.
I'm going with it being a B&M only if its a new concept they have developed.

I doubt they will leave it behind, they are just bringing coasters into the 21st century using the technology thats out there.

I sort of am disappointed with it most likely being a B&M, The layout shows various hills that should give out good airtime, but from what I've read B&M hyper's for example are very controlled and I feel the layout would be more exciting if say Intamin, renowned for insane airtime on there hypers were manufacturing it. I'm saying it won't be, but from seeing previous B&M's "airtime" and stuff I just hope it's not a disappointment.
If you go down to the Towers today, you\'d better ride Th13teen. :P

With B&M, people are also missing the point.

The plans show a very generic track which can be produced by several manufacturers. It's a run of the mill layout for Intmain, Mack, Premier, Gerstlauer and MS.

Every "new" B&M concept you see, you go "Wow! That's something different" as soon as you see the plans.

Here, you go "Wow! That's so mediocre!"

Again, where is the logic in B&M investing millions of pounds to produce the same thing everyone else produces? There is nothing B&M can do on that layout which hasn't been done in some way shape or form by somebody else already - cheaper.

"Quick Walter! Our order books are full to bursting! We'd best start producing the same old crap everyone else does! It's the credit crunch Walter! THE CREDIT CRUNCH! PANIC!"
If you\'ve got a problem, stuff a worm in it!

Why are we assuming that B&M would create this "new" design just because of the credit crunch. If it is a new concept, then they will have been working on it for years, not just the past year and a half.

If this is a B&M, I wouldnt accuse them of merely rushing one out of the door. It takes years to produce a new prototype, to perfect it and find a buyer.

If im correct in my presumption rightbackgranty, Furie was being sarcastic with his repsonse about the credit crunch and in doing so had brought up a very valid point!

Why change a concept that works? We are in a recession, and if you have FULL books you would not in a million years change your design. B&M do no need to 'get with the times' because they are the times. A premier rollercoaster company that is top of its legue with orders that go back for many years. It's commercial suicide for them to change how they operate, especially in the vulnerable times we are in. Do you think Universal would appreciate it if their order is taking a year longer to produce because B&M want to play with lesser track designs and spend millions of pounds and thousands of man hours investing in it? I somehow doubt they would be overly pleased!

B&M are a great company; and a clever one at that! I can imagine they happily referred Alton Towers to another company to produce the design because i would imagine based on the Towers brief, B&M would not viably be able to produce an effective and permier design and service!

Whilst I am aware this is a discussion forum, I have grown immensely tired of this B&M debate. This topic has actually gone nowhere for days now. All of this discussion has been fuelled by Sanbrooke's claims.

I know it has created the discussion of which i've made comments. I do think its time we wait for the official release of further information on the manufacturer before we comment more on this. We do seem to be going round in circles.

Like i've said before, I really don't mind who builds this ride, as I think the emphasis for this ride will be about the theming and the ride experience. There are so many companies who will be able to pull this project off and create an amazing ride.

I don't always look at a ride and think its shite because its not made by a premium manufacturer, I base my opinions of rides on the experience Ive had riding it.

The colours where described as neutral I think?

I should imagine whatever colour is chosen it will blend into the environment.
Dark green cars and brown track would look great, and could very much suit the potential theme.

I think it would look cool, if they used simlar effects used on Nemesis. They could paint the supports to look like trees, using differnt shades of brown etc. Instead of creating rust effects, they could make the joints look as tho they are coverd in moss and vines.
The track will look good if its a motled brown, so that it will seem to blend in to the wooded section of the ride.

I think the ride will have to be neutral, Alton Towers will have little to no choice. But I wouldn't have it any other way! Rides at Alton Towers work best when integrated into the surroundings - not plonked.

Oblivion, Air, Nemesis, RMT and Rita to some extent all look much better suited to their location than Spinball, for example.

Neutral colours are certain, and the ride will look much better with them anyway. To fit in with the darker theme that this coaster seems to have, I'm expecting blacks, browns and dark greens, all of those 3 colours will fit nicely with the theme and the surrounding area.

I don't think anything is going to stand out in terms of bright colours, of course I hope the the station building will stand out in Ug Land as it looks fantastic, but this will be more because of size and appearance rather than colour. With all of the planning restraints they have to go for neutral colours, but Alton seem to be very good at making this work!
