Going to planning committee on Wednesday 28 Jan 2009
AstroDan

Hopefully the secondary application is for a support attraction. However, most of Ug Land fits into the "general planning area" and smaller attractions don't need any planning at all.

Could be for something else around the resort.

Hi All

I have been a long time reader of this forum and thought it would be about time to register so first of all I would like to say hello to you all.

Right, two points that have been bugging me:-

1) This is all speculation, we have no details of the actuall ride apart from knowing it is a fast ground hugging coaster. I for one am very excited about the potential of this ride

2) The queue line - could this just be a representation for planning purposes? As in, it will physically look different but take up the area shown???

Those who have seen the application - are there any details of manufacturer, pictures etc in it?

Interesting that we have seen another application spring up - maybe for a robo arm which would further add to the rumours that Dark Forest is the chose theme. Would it be possible however that this new application could be a replacement to the original application after the bad feedback received from numerous forums?

Interesting times hey! :D
oldgitBEN

actually the past couple of posts make a valid point,

do we even know this ride is going to have a worlds first? Or have we just assumed because it was an SW?

I sincerley hope the cattle pen plans do change, can you imagine walking into UgLand with the two newest coasters there and looking over a mass of people and wooden boards? With no visible difference with which queue is which?

Im really really dissapointed by these purley because Ritas queue is already too close to the shops/food places when you walk into ugland it regularly felt too busy and crowded - add another main attraction and it could fast become unbarable.

While I've been thinking about the cattle-pen line I really think that it's a bad idea. Yet as previously pointed out, it might just be an old planning application, who says that the cattle-pen is for sure.
Anyway, I know I'd love to see it for real, but is it offically confirmed that John Wardley is involved? I think so, as he did walk on Saw so I don't know why it could be different. :)

It's confirmed on his own website here: http://www.john-wardley.demon.co.uk/biog.htm

Am I right in thinking this thing is SHORTER than Corky!?

The thing with this ride is, it looks like it could easily be a fantastic ride, but still be a crap Secret Weapon. 'Let It Be' by any other band would be an amazing album but it's a sub-standard Beatles album.

On the other hand, if this thing is an Intamin Mega-Lite as the plans kinda imply, despite not being the most visually mind-blowing rides in the world 'Piraten' at Djurs Sommerland did come at Number 5 in the Mitch Hawker poll, being the mighty Nemesis! Mitch Hawker isn't gospel truth of course but it's something to take into consideration...

Dear Mr. Littler

I refer to your email prior to Christmas concerning the abscence of plans from our website relating to the above application. Unfortunately our scanning team has been experiencing a significant backlog which has led to delays in uploading plans. I have specifically asked that these plans be given priority and hope that they will be online by the end of the week. The consultation period on the application is still running and it is anticipated that the application will be presented before the Planning Committee on the 12th February.

Should you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Ooh Nice one! Were you enquiring about the plans for a Bargain Booze shop front and illuminated sign in Denstone? I've been waiting to pass judgment on those. :P

Actually maybe we could put in objections to the plans on the grounds that it looks like a pile of dog doings? :P
Gothic looking buildings, hang on a minute, this is suppost to be a new, different area, not a new Glomy Wood. :?:

:)
Well the Towers buildings are an example of what gothic archecture actually is, not Gloomy Wood. And considering that, some have seen concept images, have seem themeing that replicates something similar to more derelict version of the Towers, I would say that my ideas were still valid.

Monsters, zombies, bats and ghosts are of a gothic theme to fit the term loosly, but the two are completely different.

Yeah, a gothic theme would be good fou Ug and but that would signifify the end for GW as it is still too similar.
AstroDan

I don't think it would signify the end of Gloomy Wood at all, Gloomy Wood is a one-ride area, very small scale. This should be much larger scale and I am sure there will be differences.

Nice one Ash.. and the suggestion of crofty for the objections is a brilliant idea.

Regarding the new permission, it could be for anything, and anywhere in the park.

:( I now pray for the best (secret weapon) but now expect average or below :( . But their is hope for this is alton towers and they haven't really let us enthusiasts down in the past even though they have the impression that the general public are cows and need to be lined up in masses and masses of wooden queues

On a serious note though i feel now that alton towers have branded this ride as a secret weapon simply to boost its status and you could say that they do that for all secret weapons but i feel that for previous secret weapons they have been branded that because they are truly amazing spectacular whatever and i know im making these judgments on planning applications but they tend to be pretty or near exactly the same as the final product so yes i am disappointed

I would also like to say that people who are saying that the ride IS going to be a ground hugging coaster no, you do not know that, all you have seen is a pink line which near resembles a mega lite (at least one good thing came out of it) My next and final moan you would be happy to know is this regularly talked about point which is that theming can make up for anything. Im sorry but no amount of theming will make up for this ride if the layout is poor it really annoys me when i see as long as its got fantastic theming i dont care, how can you not care, i pray to god or jebus or wardley or anyone out their that alton aren't just relying on theming to make this special

Now for the positives :D Their aren't much at the moment apart from the possibility of a mega lite and thats about it oh and that theirs the other application which i hope is a new application replacing this old one because alton have paid attention to the majority negative feedback from the people who really value Alton Towers. US

---- Post Info Added ----

Oh yes thankyou Crofty for suggesting the objection of the planning permition best idea i've heard in 12 pages (i joke i joke)

With regard to the whole 'world's first' debate - The BBC News website still has the video in which Russell Barnes says "we're replacing [Corkscrew] with a world's first". Although with that said, 'world's first' is always open to interpretation...

What values most to Alton Towers in the vast majority of casual visitors, Ethusiasts don't spend as much on merchandise and also get cheap entry via Annual Passes. They would rather Uncle John from down the road who has never been before to come and spend loads of money on souvenirs.

Gawd everyone stop being so negative and make your judgements come opening day.

I wasn't specifically talking about your post, I was talking in general, hence why I said "everyone" in my original post. I know everyone is allowed to give their opinions, be as negative as you want to be.

I personally would just rather wait until we have a better idea about what is happening before making a judgement.

Looks like we should all know a lot more by the end of the week then. I just have a feeling that there is more to this than meets the eye. Its Merlins first major towers ride and they must want to make an impression. The ride has got to at least be on par with Saw. If we received something like that in terms of innovation and themeing, i think we would all be pleased.

In the current economic climate, i would say its foolish of anyone to take a gamble on a ride like Alton did in the past with Oblivion and AIR.

Personally i want a tried and tested coaster type taken that extra step further in terms of overall ride experience. Fingers crossed we get it.
