Mr. Cooper it was through a commercial surveying company that many companies use as sort of focus groups before bringing out a new product. :)

Alton Towers clearly want some public feedback for these ideas, although whether they like it being cast open like this remains to be seen.

My point is that Alton Towers would have put some sort of legal obligation on any participants not to publicise anything they have seen, unless they are totally lacking in business sense. Teir success in running the park tells me they are not.

I also find the emergence of this new poster simply to post these and disappear deeply suspicious.

Of course it is also possible that I am also a mole from the towers involved in a complex double bluff......

They are a huge buisness. They aren't stupid or 'playing games'.

But what if Alton Towers want feedback, as Liam said. Then they would not put any legal stuff on these concepts. I'm pretty sure a company like Merlin in charge of a place like Alton Towers would not fool around with something as big as this :?

Yet I still cannot get over the emence theming invovled in the Dark Forest... It's surely been a very long time since anything like this has come out of the Towers :D

It's also possible that the rest of us are not taking this as seriously because it's only a Theme Park; and even if Alton Towers haven't made these images, they should follow them anyway because some of them are great ideas. :)

I'm pretty confident that are genuine however. There's not a strong reason to doubt it at the moment.

I am not saying Alton Towers haven´t made these images. I am just saying there is no middle man. They have put them up directly under a false name. This being the case they are probably meant to confuse as much as to enlighten.

Are we really to believe that their customer research consisted of just one person? Why has nobody else on here seen them? It is clear that if this was real custoimer research they targetted enthusiasts since bexhex herself said she had been hanging round the forums for a while.

Moreover, look at Bexhex´date of birth. 1979 The year corkscrew arrived and Alton Towers as we know it was born.

One things for sure, AT will know they have been leaked by now and will either by happy to read the reaction or mightly, mightly upset...

I can't imagine an online survey that includes concept artwork being agreed to without assuming the images wouldn't appear elsewhere however. You'd physically show the artwork to people if you wanted it kept in house or contained.

One thought... Rita will not fit into a Dark Forest theme without a complete re-theme. Are we not looking at a split in Ug Land and a brand new area created where Corky is now + a lot more space around it?

I can't help thinking that the space cleared behind the Cred Street theatre is for contruction storage or a proposed entrance / station that links behind CATCF into the new area.

I wouldn't be so confident if I were you Senor Cooper.
There is a middle man; a commercial surveying company as I already said.

Anyway, why does it matter? What are you trying to achieve? Why are you trying to form a conspiracy? I'd like to hear some views on what you think of the concepts. :)

It matters greatly because what Alton Towers would be prepared to include in a deliberate leak would differ sharply to what they would use to garner customer feedback (an idea which seems riddled with inconsistencies to me)

I can´t help but notice that very few of the ideas are genuinely new -a Dark (or gloomy) Forest (or wood), creatures rising from the ground during routine excavations, thunder rock rally and the metal monsters. I think what they are trying to guage our reactions to the ride types suggested as opposed to the themes, as the latter have all been done before within the park.

That said I think the concepts themselves are fantastic especially the dark forests one. I am sure we will see some of this in the park in the future, although not in this form, and I look forward to it!

Here is my take on the matter.

Alton have themselves leaked this in order to gauge our reactions, almost like free primary consumer research. Wardly and the managers have over the last few months been discussing Ugland with plans in hand as various pictures show. They have come up with a selection of loose plans and concepts over the table and have now moved on to see what the public would react to best. Although their is bound to be a red herring I feel that these are genuine Merlin Studios. I have also noted that a lot more time appears to have been spent on the Forest theme and therefore I am led to believe this is what the park favor at present.
The park will use this topic and other research they have done to come to a conclusion soonish, they will then approve financing, contractors and go full steam ahead with the project.

As for Ugland as a whole it would be pretty easy to change, unlike say nemesis a lot of the theming is simply painted on and basically easy to remove. Rita could be painted dark green with the launch going through a dark wooden tunnel and so on; It is possible to say the least. The body panels on the trains are simply a pop-off and re-spray job so they look like a jeep for instance.

Yep, I agree with you Kaz there.

In terms of what ride they install - I think they maybe planning both concepts - The Roboarm and the Tilt coaster. I don't think the Roboarm alone is big enough to be a flagship ride like the coaster would be but I reckon it would make a nice extra ride for the new area!

I am incredibly excited at the moment. :D

One thing that comes to mind are the Thunder Rock plans. They seem like much more of a viable and easy option for Alton Towers - one we have talked about prior also.

The Dark Forest plans are so... enthusiastic, for a park that recently gave us the Dung Heap over plans for a fantastic themed temple playground. And I still find it really hard to envision Alton Towers completely redoing and plussing a ride that's still very new and albeit looking awful, very popular. I still think it could work with a Dark Forest theme - it could be great, infact. Having vines creeping up the supports, tunnels and such. But then it would be hard to justify the name "Rita - Queen of Speed", or the dragster race cars.

I don't know. I think we'll see the race theme retained somehow, even if they get ambitious as the superior plans propose. I do think all of the themes to be successfully integrated into a singular area.

Oh god... *pinches self*
This came a bit out of the blue didn't it!? :P

This topic was only one page half an hour ago and now it is 5...

Looks exciting. I still want a woodie for 2010. I really don't care for the Roboarm concept, it looks ridiculously boring

The 'Dark Forest' idea though I DO like.
Big Dave

I cannot seehow the dark wood idea could go into the Ugland area. The only way it would work is if they have a total rethme of that area. This would mean two areas which are a large distance apart both themed on spooky woodland. I reallllllllllllllllly like the idea of spooky themed roboarms near gloomy wood and then maybe a tilt coaster up towards ugland themed around a stunt car. Even though I dont like Ritas theme, at least it would fit in together. Realllly hope they add masses of theming to both the rides.

Yes he has a flagship ride in his display name, but his first name is not, crucially, Hemesis or Bemesis or Kemesis or anything like that. Blake is pointing out that it is a coincidence that ´Bex´ is a name which rhymes so pleasingly with ´hex´.

Let´s cease talking about names as it is a tangent of unparalleled unproductiveness and irrelevance.
