Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

^The wheels are one whole unit, so yes, unless there is a major faulty wheel (and I am NOT joining that argument), then they would have to do a pull-through to the next brakes yes.

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

What you don't seem to understand is that the train behaves exactly the same whether it's full of obese people or completely empty. It's basic physics. Gravity affects an empty or full train in the exact same way. Isn't that only when it reaches velocity? Which certainly wont happen. So you are say...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Wouldn't have happened with a B&M.... Just saying... ;) Oh Fail. A lot of people (here, social media etc) are saying a similar thing; that we should have got a B&M. What an absurd idea, having a variety of coasters is what a park needs, and AT is now getting this. It is just a shame that th...

We all know what has happened, the train (that is meant to go from A to B), left from point A and didn't make it to point B.

And, sadly, the guy who runs the 'hole in one', will not no anymore than that.

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

very slightly off topic but what causes coasters to stall?? Theres obviously something very wrong with it! Could be many things... 1) It was cold, causing the wheel issues and the coaster to run slower. 2) Very windy (in the wrong direction), much like SAW a few weeks back. 3) No dummies in the tra...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

It shouldn't take long at all to sort it out, it'll be back and testing tomorrow (at least). It is literally a case of pulling the train to a high point and 'letting go' but only certain people can do this, it may have to be Gerst (but they'll still be around somewhere). Also, AT will need to get a ...

X: Let's find out...

I remember the 'original' ride so well. The robots climbing out of the walls (later half-sprayed red/orange and used for the 3D Freakshow maze and then used on the break run inside the ride). There were TV's dotted about (some upside down), helicopter sound FX, weird robot things behind glass panels...

So has The Smiler topped Nemesis?

From my experience, and it was only one ride on opening day, it is definitely in the running.

I'm going back in a few weeks, once the ride is 'broken in', that'll be the real test.

And can anybody see down into the site, is it still a 'hard hat' area and are their still pieces of construction lying around?

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I'm still convinced we'll get an opening date today. Right now there's so much confusion as to when the ride will open. The website seems to suggest May 2013, but the way Alton Towers and some of the TTF members are addressing the issue, suggests it could be much later. Either way I think Alton Tow...

Parks in this country always do that. It's for marketing purposes really; Rita goes 0-100KPH, sounds much better than 60mph.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Has testing started again, if anyone knows? I don't believe so, or if it has it is happening under the cover of darkness. I assume that it cannot test whilst queueline work is occurring, as they are too close to the track. However, they could be testing at night (again) whilst construction is not a...
