Mitch Hawker polls 2013-14

Once again I've come out of retirement to promote the annual Mitch Hawker steel coaster poll , arguably the biggest and best enthusiast poll worldwide. Everyone can take part and it doesn't matter how many coasters you've been on. The wood poll took place a few weeks ago, and the results can be foun...

Re: Mitch Hawker coaster polls 2012-13

OK, the steel poll is now online !  Once again, there's a link to Jordan's ballot helper which really does make things a lot easier (tip - search for UK rides by typing in ", UK" and repeat for any other country/US state you have ridden coasters in). You might want to check the instruction...

Mitch Hawker coaster polls 2012-13

It’s that time of the year again – the Mitch Hawker coaster poll is back.  The wooden ballot is now online at http://www.ushsho.com/bestrollercoasterpoll.htm , the steel poll should also be returning shortly after a break in 2011-12.  Unlike other polls, the MH poll attempts to eliminate bias toward...

Re: Queueline mystery?

It used to be part of the Nemesis queue, it left the current queue line just to the left of the main entrance, crossing the access road before passing under the monorail.  Some of it was recycled for Dynamo before it's current use for Sub Terra.

Re: Slammer: Staying or going?

Providing I have the lap bar tight and the shoulder bar so loose it's essentially pointless I'm quite fond of Slammer.  Sure there's a lot wrong with it, and I'm always worried I'll get stranded upside down but it's completely different to anything else in the UK and a fairly thrilling ride.  Bonus ...

Re: Strange Coasters

That's just a standard Tivoli large, anyone who's ridden Treetops at Oakwood will probably agree that one is pretty terrifying too.  Last year I rode it (Treetops) in near total darkness which was... interesting.

Re: Official Oakwood Thread!

To be fair, when I first visited Oakwood back in the late 90s it was probably on a par with Thorpe at the time, and ahead in terms of coasters.  Oakwood's investment since has been moderate, but few could have predicted how far Thorpe have come in the past 15 years.

Re: Europa-Park: Trip Planning, Questions and Advice!

I don't think they operate any form of exit pass system (though I could be wrong) and there is no fastrack at EP.  All coasters and water rides at EP have a no disabled rider policy in accordance with German H&S, and whilst strictly speaking this probably wouldn't apply to you I'd be surprised i...

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach General Discussion

Not really, both Towers and Thorpe are pretty good for throughputs.  Towers especially - they'll hardly even run a ride at low capacity even on off-peak days, and most of their major coasters can achieve well over 1000/hour

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach General Discussion

Capacity has been an issue at PBB for a while, with none of their major coasters capable of getting over 1000/hour.  PMBO should be able to get around 900 though - what was taking them so long?

Re: Towers' Pricing

Hot on the heels of PBB increasing their prices, Alton Towers have followed suit with a £1.50 raise to the on the day price, bringing it to an eye-watering £43.50. The online price when booked more than a week in advance is £26.10, rising to £34.80 if booked nearer the time.  There is no saving if b...

Re: Phantasialand: 2012

The siege scene at the end is fairly epic.  I rather feel that it would have been better as a boat ride though - that downhill bit should be a drop.

Re: Phantasialand: 2012

Nah, I like it as well.  Sure it's far too slow and has that pointless tunnel leading to and from it, but if they could just speed it up a bit they'd have a perfectly respectable ride on their hands.

Re: The Mack suspended coaster

They haven't built any yet, though Europa Park's next ride is apparently going to be one.  It will be a dark ride/coaster hybrid, so not really a particularly thrilling ride, but I have fairly high hopes for the concept.

I'd go but I'll be in London so will have to settle for Thorpe.  My next Towers trip won't be until after TTF South :(

I was referring to fireworks last year, not last weekend - the Sunday of Blow s*it up was busier than Sunday just gone, but not by a huge amount.

Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm and General Discussion

Samurai was having major difficulty parking on Sunday - we were lowered to the platform in the wrong place twice, and had to be lifted back up and slowly turned almost all the way round before finally being allowed off.  Hopefully they're doing something to sort it out - if parking takes longer than...

Black Mamba:

I've always liked the simple elegance of B&M coasters.  Couple that with Mamba's spectacular landscaping and you've got a visually stunning ride.
