Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion
Meanwhile what does social distancing look like on a rollercoaster? 25% loads? 50% loads? For sure the minimum recommended distancing of 2m doesn't apply when you're moving, especially at higher speeds. An aerodynamic study of droplet transmission in different activities, suggests that distances w...

Re: Alton Towers Hotel & Splash Landings
An additional piece of information for those having to deal with Alton Towers or any of the Melin properties about holiday bookings. Merlin have decided that despite them cancelling the booking contract, full refunds will only be available if you take a time limited voucher. Else any cancellation wa...

Re: Merlin General Discussion - New Owners agreed in £4.8bn deal
Whilst the entire planet is now increasing and practicing social distancing measures, Merlin Entertainments appear to be continuing to display what appears to me as arrogant contempt towards the global pandemic, and is intending on re-opening LEGOLAND Japan on Monday. [Notice of some business resump...

Re: Alton Towers Hotel & Splash Landings
For anyone now looking at the prospect of having to cancel rooms at Alton Towers, and given the option of accepting cash or a voucher, be advised of the current extremely high pricing at the Alton Towers Hotel. Shown are for the first weekend in August, 2 adults, without and with passes (note neithe...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion
pleased to read that, after reading this article https://deadline.com/2020/03/los-angeles-county-death-coronavirus-disney-world-universal-orlando-florida-visit-1202888170/ A little shocked Merlin even tried to open at all. Re: Chessington - General Discussion
Social media appears to be awash of people attempting to change bookings at Chessington, and are being told no or to pay more, even in cases where customers are requested to self isolate by the government. I honestly do not understand how Chessington, and I suspect Merlin more broadly, can operate i...

Re: Industry General Discussion
With the outbreak of the coronavirus what sort of impact does everyone think it will have on the industry? Sadly as has been seen this past week, the entire industry has had to essentially close down. Quite why Merlin are trying to string it out with their UK operations I'm not sure. Thankfully for...

Re: Derren Brown's Ghost Train - Rise Of The Demon
For me the maths determining effective cleaning time is eye opening. Assume a headset takes about 30 seconds to effectively clean with an alcohol based cleaner, an estimate based on WHO effective times for hand washing and roughly how long alcohol based cleaners take to work. Now we have 50 headsets...

Re: Derren Brown's Ghost Train - Rise Of The Demon
They certainly could, but the probability of being infected would likely be significantly different. There would also be steps people could take, such as washing hands before eating, that would not be available when putting on a VR headset.

Re: Derren Brown's Ghost Train - Rise Of The Demon
I guess this is a risk, but if it comes to shutting to down, do they not then have to consider shutting the whole park? Due to the nature of the VR headset coming into near or actual contact with face, nose and eyes, I would expect the infection risk to be far higher than any other aspect of park o...
